Mike Passell è nato nel 1947 a Yonkers una cittadina sull'Hudson circa 30 Km. a nord di New York ed è un esperto in informatica ed un giocatore professionista di bridge che, dopo aver a lungo vissuto a Dallas, si è trasferito a Las Vegas assieme alla moglie Nancy, anch'essa campionessa di bridge, con la quale è sposato dal 1979.

Mike e Nancy, che oggi sono tornati a vivere a Plano circa 30Km a nord di Dallas, detengono un singolare primato, sono l'unica coppia marito-moglie ad aver vinto uno la Bermuda Bowl e l'altra la Venice Cup.
Suo fratello Bill (1930 - 2010) è stato anche lui un noto giocatore americano.
Mike figura tra le prime 40 posizioni nella classifica dei World Grand Master ed ha rappresentato gli USA in numerose gare internazionali vincendo, tra l'altro, l'argento nelle Olimpiadi del 1980.
Sul piano nazionale ha vinto oltre 20 NABC tra cui: 4 Reisingers, 2 Vanderbilts, 3 Spingolds e 3 Mitchell ed ha superato la soglia dei 60.000 Master Point, cosa riuscita soltanto ad un altro grande del bridge a stelle e strisce: Paul Soloway.
In coppia con Fred Hamilton è stato uno degli ultimi famosi Aces di Dallas.
Particolarmente abile nel gioco di difesa per il quale ha vinto nel 1991 l'IBPA's CC Wei Award, è anche un appassionato di sport di ogni genere che in gioventù ha praticati il baseball giocando con i Cincinnati Reds.
Nel 2008, Mike è stato eletto nella Hall of Fame del bridge americano.

three decades, and is currently the leading masterpoint holder among living ACBL
members with more than 60,000.
He won the McKenney Trophy (now the Barry Crane Top 500) in 1976 and is a perennial contender in the annual masterpoint race.
The Las Vegas resident, formerly of Dallas, learned to play bridge during a high school vacation while watching his older brother, William, teach bridge classes.
Passell has an enviable record in high-level competition, including the international level.
He was a member of the winning Bermuda Bowl team in 1979 after placing second in the world championship two years earlier.
With Mark Lair, he formed one of the ACBL’s most formidable partnerships.
Passell has numerous North American championships to his credit, including three victories in the Reisinger Board-a-Match Teams, three in the Spingold Knockout Teams and two in the Vanderbilt Knockout Teams.
He has won hundreds of regional championships and has nearly 800 Blue Ribbon qualifications.
Passell and his wife, Nancy, live in Plano TX and are among the few married pair who are both world champions.
