World Bridge Series si svolgono negli anni pari, non olimpici
(cioè non bisestili), cioè 1990, 1994 e così via
Consiste in una serie di campionati e eventi sussidiari che includono il
World Open, Women's e Senior Pairs, e il World Open, Women's e Senior
Teams Championships e, più recentemente, il World Mixed Pairs and Teams
Championships
Le World Senior Pairs sono state introdotte nel 1990, mentre, nel 1994,
sono state giocate le prime World Women Knockout Teams (per la McConnell
Cup) e le prime World Senior Knockout Team, corse su linee simili alla
Rosenblum Cup
Questi campionati sono ora i più grandi di tutti i campionati WBF in
termini di iscrizioni. Hanno iniziato, tuttavia, su scala modesta,
semplicemente come World Open Pairs e un corrispondente evento femminile
con, nei primi anni, un evento misto di un tipo o dell'altro per
completare il programma. Oggi il programma prevede gare a squadre ea
coppie in tutte le categorie (open, donne, senior, miste)
Si segnala che il Campionato del Mondo a Squadre Miste, disputato
contemporaneamente alle Olimpiadi del Mondo a coppie nel 1962 e 1974, è
stato spostato, a partire dal 1996, nella sede delle Olimpiadi a Squadre
Mondiali ma ora è tornato alle World Bridge Series
Nel 1994 venne varata la Rand Cup che, in onore di Nisson Rand, è dedicata alla categoria dei Seniores
La competizione è di tipo transnazionale e si svolge ogni quattro anni, negli anni pari
Infobridge unisce anche alcuni Campionati precedenti che possono essere assimilati ai WBS
The World Bridge Series takes place in the even-numbered, non-Olympic years (i.e. not leap years), that is, 1990, 1994 and so on
It consist of a series of championship and subsidiary events which include the World Open, Women’s and Senior Pairs, and the World Open, Women’s and Senior Teams Championships and, more recently the World Mixed Pairs and Teams Championships
The World Senior Pairs was introduced in 1990, while, in 1994, the first World Women Knockout Teams (for the McConnell Cup) and the first World Senior Knockout Teams were played, run on similar lines to the Rosenblum Cup
These Championships are now the biggest of all WBF Championships in terms of entries. They began, however, on a modest scale, simply as World Open Pairs and a corresponding Women’s event with, in the early years, a Mixed event of one kind or another to round out the program. Today, the program includes team and pairs competitions in all categories (open, women, seniors, mixed)
It should be noted that the World Mixed Teams Championship, contested at the same time as the World Pairs Olympiad in 1962 and 1974, was moved, as from 1996, to the site of the World Team Olympiad but has now returned to the World Bridge Series
Infobridge also combines some previous Championships that can be assimilated to the WBS
The Rand Cup is a transnational Seniors team event held during the World Bridge SeriesIt was named in the honor of Nissan Rand, also known as “Mr Senior Bridge”, as he gave life to this category of Bridge
