 Krzysztof  MARTENS

Nato nel 1952 a Rzes, ingegnere chimico, è stato vicepresidente del partito socialdemocratico della sua regione ed è una delle figure più rappresentative del bridge polacco. 

 Sposato con due figli, proviene da una famiglia di bridgisti e inizia a giocare professionalmente negli anni '70 e tra altri trofei conquista a livello continentale 3 Campionati Europei a Squadre (1981, 1989 e 1993) giocando con tre diversi partner! 2 bronzi nel 1991 e nel 2001 e la Coppa Europa del 1984.

 A livello mondiale ha conquistato un argento (1991) e 3 bronzi (1981, 1989 e 2002) nella Bermuda Bowl  ed un un titolo Olimpico nel 1984.

 E' stato insignito dalla WBF della qualifica di World Grand Master con la quale occupa il 4º posto tra i migliori giocatori polacchi viventi.

 Krzysztof, che ha anche vinto la Vanderbilt Cup del 2008 e l'argento agli Europei Open a Coppie del 2009, è coautore del sistema dichiarativo Martens-Przybora ed è stato membro del Consiglio E.B.L. ed ha anche pubblicato alcuni libri.

 Nel 1989 comincia la sua importante attività di trainer che lo vedrà impegnato con tutte le squadre nazionali di Israele, con le nazionali femminili di Olanda, Germania (bronzo nel 2000), Austria e con le Nazionali open di Libano, Siria, Turchia, Russia, Indonesia e Giordania.

Krzysztof was born on the twenty fourth of May 1952. A member of a bridgeplaying family, he was taught to play the game at home by his parents. Another chemical engineer and businessman, he is also a professional bridge player and coach, having regular assignments with the national teams of several countries.

His most recent engagement was as coach of the German Women's team which took the bronze medals at the Maastricht Olympiad in 2000. After each victory his simple advice to the team was, 'Next opponents please!'

He enjoys the psychological elements of the game and considers the auction to be the most difficult area to master.

He believes  that knowledge and the ability to keep calm and concentrate are essential requirements for the perfect partner.

His interests outside the game are journalism and politics.

He is the author of the book Szkola Wistu (The School of Defense), and co author of the book The Bidding System of Martens-Przybora. He has been a member of the European Bridge League Systems Committee since 1996, and was a member of the Board of the Polish Bridge Union between 1980 and 1984.

He was placed tenth on the list of the top Polish sportsmen of 1991.

His gold medals have come in the 1984 Olympiad, the 1st Transnational World Teams Championship in 1997, and at the European Teams Championships of 1981, 1989, and 1993 - each  time with a different partner! He took silver in the 1991 Bermuda Bowl and bronze in 1989. He was also a bronze medalist at the European Teams Championship in 1991.

He is now a globetrotter, moving swiftly from one country to another in search of victories. His most recent successes were fourth place in the 2001 European Pairs Championship in Sorrento, and a win in the 2001 British Spring Foursomes, both with Marcin Lesniewski.

He also won the Vanderbilt Cup of 2008 and he earned a silver medal at European Pair Championships in 2009.
