Larry Neil  COHEN

Larry Neil Cohen è nato a Little Falls nello stato di New York il 4 aprile del 1959 ed ora vive con la moglie Maria a Boca Raton in Florida. Ha studiato al Suny di Albany e si è formato come programmatore di computer e prima di divenire un professionista del bridge a tutto tondo ha anche fatto l'agente di Borsa.

 Ha imparato il bridge da bambino quando aveva solo 6 anni e a 17 aveva già guadagnato il titolo di ACBL Life Master; oggi è World Life Master ed uno dei giocatori americani di successo.

 Ha vinto molti campionati Nazionali, ma è più noto ai bridgisti di tutto il mondo per aver rispolverato dall'oblio nel quale era stata relegata la  "Legge delle Prese Totali" che il francese Vernes aveva teorizzato nel lontano 1966.

 Membro del Comitato di redazione del prestigioso "Bridge World" ha costruito durante il sodalizio con Marty Bergen un sistema dichiarativo che appoggia molte delle sue scelte e dei suoi gadget sugli enunciati empirici della Legge.

 I suoi libri sulla Legge sono stati tradotti in più lingue e sono stati pubblicati in Italia dalla casa editrice Mursia.

 Egli ha vinto il primo di una trentina di titoli nazionali all'età di soli 22 anni, tra i suoi successi si possono contare: 2 Reisingers (1985, 91), 4 Spingold (1973, 1976, 1981, 1984), 3 Vanderbilt (1975, 1976 e 2003), 3 Mitchell (1984, 1991, 2007), 4 GNT (1974, 1994, 2007 e 2008),  2 Silodor (1979 e 2002),  2 Wernher (1976 e 1996), Cavendish Invitational Pairs (1983, 88), 2 Cavendish Invitational Teams (1988, 94) e la Cap Gemini del 1999.

 Larry ha anche conquistato una medaglia di bronzo alle Olimpiadi di Maastricht del 2000 ed una d'argento ai Campionati Mondiali a Coppie del 1998 ed è stato eletto dall'ACBL giocatore dell'anno nel 2002.

Larry che oltre che un ottimo giocatore è anche un insegnante di successo che dirige il prestigioso Bridge World Master Solvers Club e che pubblicizza se stesso con un sito che ha il seguente indirizzo www.larryco.com.

La sua ultima partnership con David Berkowitz sta dando ottimi risultati tra i quali ricordiamo il primo Warren Buffet (2006), 3 Silodor (2004, 2006 e 2009) ed il Wernher Trophy del 1996.

Nel 2003 ha ricevuto il Sidney H. Lazard Jr. Sportsmanship Award e nel 2022 è stato incluso nella Hall of Fame.

Larry was born 1959 in New York City. He now resides with his wife, Maria, in Boca Raton, Florida.

Former computer-programmer and options trader, but presently makes living from lecturing, writing/publishing bridge books/articles. Larry has played bridge in a dozen different countries in special invitational tournaments. His biggest passion/hobby is golf (handicap 11). In 2009, Larry "retired" from playing to focus on teaching and writing.

Learned at age 6 from his grandparents. Started playing duplicate at age 14 and in tournaments at age 15. Life Master at 17. Won first National Championship at age 22. Winner of other 20 national championships including 3 Vanderbilt, 4 Spingolds, 2 Reisingers, 4 GNT, 2 Wernher, 3 Mitchell. Two-time winner of Cavendish Invitational Pairs. Winner of the 1999 Cap Gemini World Top 16 Pairs Tournament in the Hague.

Winner of Silver Medal in 1998 World Pairs Championships. Bronze Medal, 2000 Olympiad Teams. 2002 ACBL Player of the Year.

Authored To Bid or Not to Bid about the LAW Of Total Tricks, and it was the best-selling bridge book of the 90's with more than 80,000 copies sold in a total of six different languages. The sequel, Following the LAW has also been a best-seller. Author of other books and many magazine articles. Wrote and published CD's Play Bridge with Larry Cohen (1999 Life Master Pairs) -- Days 1,2,3 and My Favorite 52 (2005). 2009 new book: My Favorite 52

Director of the prestigious Bridge World Master Solvers Club. Worldwide lecturer on bridge on land and at sea. National Appeals Committee Member and casebook panelist. Vu-graph commentator at national championships and on BBO. Former chairman of the ACBL Hall-of-Fame Committee.

In 2003 he received Sidney H. Lazard Jr. Sportsmanship Award and in 2022 he is inducted in Hall of Fame.
