Il "Cavendish Invitational Pairs" è una competizione ad inviti organizzata dallo storico Cavendish Club di New York nella quale un nutrito numero di coppie di campioni sono invitate a partecipare e vengono messe all'asta per formare un montepremi che viene poi diviso tra, chi si è aggiudicato le coppie migliori classificate, ed i giocatori stessi.
Il Cavendish Club venne fondato nel 1925 da Wilbur C. Whitehead in associazione con Gratz M. Scott e Edwin A. Wetzlar.
Più tardi, nel 1996, dopo che nel 1991 il Cavendish Club aveva chiuso i battenti, è nata la World Bridge Production, Inc. costituita da Bob Blanchard, Bob Hamman, John Roberts e Bill Rosenbaum che ha trasformato l'evento nel più ricco e prestigioso al mondo di questo tipo.
Le coppie invitate vengono messe all'asta prima del torneo e il monte acquisti viene a formare i premi che si dividono scommettitori e giocatori.
