Nato nel 1958 a Karlskrona, un paesino nell'estremo Sud Est della Svezia, circa 200 Km ad Est di Malmoe, Magnus è stato costretto ad imparare il Bridge quando aveva 6 anni perché sua nonna non aveva un partner con il quale chiudere il tavolo familiare nel quale veniva praticato l'Auction Bridge.
Memore di questi inizi, Magnus, quando compì i 15 anni, scelse il Bridge come materia facoltativa alle Scuole superiori e già dalla prima lezione ne fu conquistato a tal punto da farne la principale attività della sua vita.
Fece il suo esordio nel Circolo della sua città nel 1974 e due anni più tardi nel bridge giovanile che conta partecipando all'EBL Junior Camp di Budapest. Da quel momento per molti anni è stato uno dei pilastri delle Squadre Nazionali del suo Paese.
I suoi maggiori successi includono il bronzo nella Bermuda Bowl del 1987 e nelle Rosenblum del 1986 e del 1998, l'argento nella Rosenblum del 2006, l'oro agli Europei a Squadre del 1996 e l'argento in quelli del 1999 e del 2004, il bronzo agli Europei a Coppie del 1996, ai Mondiali del 1998, e alle Olimpiadi a Squadre del 1988.
Inoltre, ha vinto il Cavendish a Coppie del 1988, è arrivato secondo nella Spingold del 2000 e nella NEC Cup del 2001.
Rettore della Scuola Blichers di Axelvold, Magnus, che vive nella vicina Svalövs, è sposato con Sofia ed ha tre figli Richard nato nel 1995 e quando non gioca o non insegna Bridge, si diletta con il cinema, con i computer e con qualsiasi gioco basato sulla strategia.
Magnus can stake a strong
claim on the title of Sweden's Mr. Bronze, with six third-place finishes in
World Championships.
He came close to winning his first NABC title in 2000, but his team lost the Spingold final in Anaheim.
Magnus was born in 1958 in Karlskrona, Sweden.
He now lives in Hoor, in southern Sweden, where he is a bridge teacher, writer, travel consultant, and the Editor of Bridgetidningen, the world's second-oldest bridge magazine.
Magnus has accumulated a large collection of Bronze medals: one in the Bermuda Bowl (1987 in Jamaica), two in the Rosenblum Cup (1986 in Miami Beach and 1998 in Lille), one in the World Teams Olympiad (1988 in Venice), and one in the World Open Pairs (1998 in Lille).
He also has some medals that are not Bronze. He won the European Teams Championship in 1987 in Brighton and finished second in the same event in 1999 in Malta e in 2004 a Malmö, he eraned an other second position in Rosenblum 2006.
It goes without saying that he also has a Bronze medal from the European Teams (from 1989) and another from the European Open Pairs (1997 in The Hague).
Magnus is a WBF World Life Master. In 1988, Magnus won the Cavendish Invitational Pairs playing with Bjorn Fallenius. His partner has been young Peter Fredin since 1996, when they began their career in representative events by winning the Nordic Teams.
In addition to hundreds of articles, Magnus has collaborated (with long-time teammate Mats Nilsland and Anders Wirgren) on four books about expert Swedish (Scanian) methods and has just completed a book on his own.
Magnus has enjoyed productive partnerships with Fallenius, Hans Gothe, Johan Ebenius and Goran Lindberg, among others.
Away from bridge, his hobbies include computers, movies, sports and all sorts of games.
His son, born in 1995, also keeps him
busy…but very happy.
