Giovanni Donati è nato a Rimini il 5 agosto del 1998 ed è una delle giovani promesse del bridge azzurro.
In famiglia, Giovanni ha un fratello gemello Ascanio, una sorella Ilaria, ed un fratello Samuele, tutti giocavano a Whist, così quando il papà ha cominciato ad appassionarsi al bridge per il nostro giovanissimo campioncino la strada era già tracciata e il compianto Francesco Alocchi fece il resto curandone amorevolmente la crescita.
Giovanni si è maturato al Liceo Lemaitre della sua città ed ha anche frequentato un corso di teatro che, per sua esplicita affermazione, lo ha aiutato ad affrontare meglio le gare.
Sul piano nazionale ha colto il suo primo successo già nel 2010! vincendo il Campionato Italiano a Coppie Under 26, ripetendosi due anni più tardi.
Nel 2013 ha vinto il Campionato a Squadre Under 26 (arrivando secondo in quello a Coppie) e l'anno successivo ancora ha vinto quello a Coppie. Nello stesso 2014 la prima medaglia nel circuito dei grandi l'ha guadagnata vincendo il Campionato Italiano a Coppie IMP, mentre, nel 2015 ha bissato la vittoria nel Campionato a Squadre Under 26.
Sempre nel 2015 è arrivata la prima medaglia a livello internazionale quando ha vinto il Transnazionale Mondiale BAM Under 26 a cui ha fatto seguito la Coppa Italia a Squadre Miste.
Nel 2016 arriva il titolo di Italian Master e la prima convocazione nella Nazionale Azzurra con Giovanni è di gran lunga il più giovane giocatore presente agli Europei.
Nel 2019 vince l'argento nel BAM Teams ai Mondiali Giovanili Open e vince i Campionati Italiani a Coppie ripetendosi nel 2021.
Nel 2022 vince il bronzo ai Transnazionali Mondiali per Squadre Under 26, nel 2023 guadagna la seconda piazza ai 4th European Winter Games e il bronzo alla Bermuda Bowl.
Nel 2024 ha vinto il Jacoby.
Giovanni Donati was born in Rimini
on August 5, 1998 together with his twin brother Ascanio and is one of the
promising young blue bridge.
In the John's family, the sister Ilaria and the brother Samuel played Whist, so, when dad started taking an interest in bridge for our young champion the road was already drawn and the teacher Francis Alocchi did the rest, taking care of lovingly growth of John.
Giovanni matured the High School Lemaitre of his city and he also attended a theater course, that for his explicit statement has helped him to better address the races.
Domestically he took his first success in 2010! winning the Under 26 Italian Pairs Championships repeating two years later.
In 2013 he won the Under-26 Teams (coming second in the Pairs) and the following year, again the Pairs.
In 2014 came the first medal in the circuit of the great winning the Italian Pairs IMP Championships , while, in 2015 he repeated the victory in the Under-26 Teams Championships.
Also in 2015, came the first medal at the international level when he won the Under-26 World Transnationals BAM followed from the victory in the Italian Mixed Teams Cup.
In 2016 is coming the title of Italian Master and the first convocation in the Open National Team with John how youngest bridge player of European Teams Championships.
Beside , he won the silver medal in BAM Teams at the 2019 World Youth Open Championships and in Italy: Open Pairs Championships in 2019 e 2021.
Finally, he earned a bronze medal in 2022 Transnational World Teams U26 and in 2023 he earned second place in the 4th European Winter Games and the bronze medal in Bermuda Bowl.
In 2024 he won the Jacoby.
