Philippe è nato nel 1954 a Marsiglia ed è uno dei pochi professionisti di bridge a tempo pieno che hanno scelto questa carriera fin dalla giovanissima età.
A soli 16 anni era già un prima categoria e, a 26, aveva già vinto l'Olimpiade di Valkenburg con la squadra francese!
Due anni più tardi conquistava la Rosenblum Cup e nel suo palmares figurano anche due medaglie di bronzo nelle Bermuda Bowl del 1983 e del 1995, un argento negli Europei di Villamoura del 1995 che ha fatto seguito a due bronzi nel 1981 e nel 1985.
Philippe gestisce il famoso Trocadero Brdige Club, uno dei più noti e frequentati club francesi nel quale egli è anche un apprezzato insegnante di bridge.
Soulet, che è
sposato e ha due figli (Alexandre e Diane), è
anche articolista, scrittore ed organizzatore di tornei simultanei di
grande popolarità.
He also is a bridge professional, he runs one of the biggest clubs in Paris:
France Bridge. He is simultaneously a journalist, a writer, an organizer of
simultaneous tournaments and he really is a one man bridge show.
He is a tireless worker (average 16 hours per day) so during these championships
he can afford to relax a little.
His record is impressive: two World Championships, in 1980 and 1982, European
Champion in 1983, bronze medal in Beijing in 1995.
He is very pleased to be back in the French Open Team after an absence of five
years. It reminds him of the time when he was young (he was already playing with
Michel Abécassis in the 1974 European Junior Championships in Copenhagen) and is
delighted to have regained a place in this team of friends.
He is a bridge player from the tips of his fingers to the tips of his toes
(his lucky number is 1) but he is also a lover of art and Bordeaux wines, who
knows better than most where to find a good bargain.
His enthusiasm makes him a great team-mate.
