Nato a Firenze nel 1920, ingegnere, 5 volte Campione del Mondo, 3 volte Campione Olimpico, una volta Campione Europeo, scomparso agli inizi del 2003, è stato negli anni '60 dello scorso secolo uno dei più forti giocatori del mondo.
Ha esordito nel Blue Team nel 1963 sostituendo l'indisponibile Avarelli ai Campionati del Mondo di St. Vincent.
Ha ricoperto diverse cariche federali e ha tenuto per lunghi anni una rubrica di bridge sulla rivista "l'Europeo" che è stata la più fortunata nel suo genere in Italia.
E' autore di due sistemi licitativi di grande successo: l'Arno che giocò in coppia con D'Alelio, ed il Marzocco, divenuto a tutti gli effetti una specie di standard toscano.
Al momento della sua scomparsa occupava uno dei primissimi posti nella classifica dei World Grand Master e oggi possiamo ricordarlo anche per i suoi bei libri che hanno avuto straordinario successo.
Innamorato del bridge ai livelli del Chiaradia, è stato un regolarista di quelli che non avresti mai voluto incontrare sul tuo cammino.
Prima di incrociare le carte con i migliori campioni azzurri del tempo, con D'Alelio per lunghi anni formò la coppia più educata, regolare e remunerativa che il bridge italiano possa ricordare.
