Nick  NICKELL

 Frank T. "Nick" Nickell è nato a Raleigh nel North Carolina nel 1947 ma, da tempo si è stabilito a New York dove opera come specialista bancario di investimenti e come Presidente della Kelso & Co.

 Nick è lo sponsor ed il driver di una delle più forti squadre del mondo. 

 Ha rappresentato gli USA in molte competizioni internazionali ed è tra i primi 15  World Grand Master  nella speciale classifica dei migliori giocatori viventi edita dalla WBF.

 Con la sua formidabile squadra ha vinto 4 volte la Bermuda Bowl ed è arrivato in finale in 4 delle ultime 5 edizioni della competizione.

 Inoltre, ha vinto un gran numero di Campionati NABC tra i quali 10 Spingolds (5 consecutive dal 1992 al 1996), 7 Reisingers (3 consecutive dal 1993) e 2 Vanderbilt nel 2000 e nel 2003.

 In coppia con il grande Hamman ha vinto il Cavendish ad inviti del 1998.

 Le attività professionali e la cura della famiglia non gli lasciano molto tempo per allenarsi de visu con il suo forte partner Dick Freeman, tuttavia essi riescono a mantenere intatto il loro affiatamento incontrandosi virtualmente via Internet.

Nel 2008, Nick è stato eletto nella Hall of Fame del bridge americano.

Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Frank T "Nick" Nickell now lives in New York most of the time. Nick is the driving force behind the composition of one of the strongest ever bridge teams. An investment banker and entrepreneur, Nick wanted to put together a very good team in the early nineties. 

His partner, Dick Freeman, suggested that Bob Hamman/Bobby Wolff and Jeff Meckstroth/Eric Rodwell were the two pairs needed. How right he was!

This group (with Paul Soloway replacing Wolff in 1998) proceeded to reel off an amazing run of results. They have reached the final of four of the last five Bermuda Bowls - beating Canada in the 1995 final in Beijing, Brazil in Bermuda in January, 2000, and Italy in Monte Carlo in 2003 but losing to the French in Hammamet in 1997 and to Italy in Estoril in 2005. 

They have also won too many US titles to list. Playing with Hamman, Nick won the Cavendish Invitational Pairs in 1998. He is a WBF Grand Master, ranking 10th in the current standings.

Business and family commitments leave Nick and Dick very little time to work on their partnership between major tournaments, but there are rumors circulating that Dick, the consummate old schooler, will finally get hooked to the Internet to permit some online practice.
