Nissan T. Rand nacque l'8 ottobre del 1930 a Kosice, una città nel Sud Est della Slovacchia (allora Cecoslovacchia) ma si trasferì in Palestina con la sua famiglia quando aveva solo 5 anni.

Nel 1950 si trasferì negli Stati Uniti dove, 4 anni più tardi, si laureò in Scienza dell'Alimentazione alla Cornell University di Ithaca nello stato di New York.
Nel 1957, conseguì una seconda laurea in "Poultry Nutrition and Food Technology" e cominciò a lavorare in campo industriale.
Nel 1960 iniziò la sua carriera professionale tornando in Israele come Direttore della Nutrizione presso la Dawe-Abic Pharmaceutical Company che lo portò ad essere Membro dell'"Israeli National Research Council" ed a introdurre in Israele il concetto di controllo qualitativo del cibo.
Divenuto un autorità nel suo campo di specializzazione, ha dedicato gran parte del suo tempo alla "World's Poultry Science Association" divenendo un apprezzato conferenziere su base europea.
Nel mondo del bridge ha ricoperto diversi incarichi sia per la EBL che per la WBF ed è stato un World Master e Senior World International Master che ha vinto la medaglia d'argento nell'Europeo a Squadre Seniores del 2002 e tre volte consecutive quella d'oro nei Mondiali Transnazionali per Squadre Seniores (1990, 1994, 1998).
Morì a New York il 25 dicembre del 2008 e i funerali si celebrarono il giorno successivo a Tel Aviv.
Alla sua memoria è stato intitolato il Campionato che ha vinto tre volte.
Nissan Rand (1930 - 2008), a multi-faceted bridge personality from Israel, as
an administrator, will go on record as 'Mr Senior Bridge' - the man who
gave life to this category of bridge, and fought for the cause of the seniors at
every administrative level. He was elected to the EBL Executive
Committee in 1995 and was re-elected in 1999, when he became Chairman of the
EBL Senior Committee until he stepped down in 2003. In 2000, he became Chairman
of the WBF Senior Committee, a post that he served until his death. Nissan
Rand was a Honorary Member of the EBL Executive Committee, a Honorary Chairman
of the EBL Senior Committee, and had served on Appeals Committees at many major
world and European championships.
As a player, Rand belonged to the world class. He represented Israel at the World Team Olympiad 1968 and the European Team Championships in 1991. He won gold medals at the World Championships (senior teams) in Albuquerque 1994 and Lille 1998, and was also frequently near the top in the numerous other competitions he participated in.
He passed away causing sadness to his many friends and leaving a difficult-to-fill gap in the world of bridge.
