Nata a Nashville nel Tennessee nel 1932, World Women Grand Master classificata tra le prime 30 giocatrici in attività nella classifica di categoria edita dalla WBF, Carol Sanders ha ricoperto diverse cariche federali ed è stata una delle più forti giocatrici del Nord America.

 Carol ha vinto le prime due edizioni della Venice Cup per poi ripetersi come capitano non giocatore nel 1987, dopo essere arrivata due volte alla piazza d'onore nel 1981 e nel 1985 e ha anche vinto le Olimpiadi femminili del 1984.

 Tra i suoi numerosi trofei spiccano anche la vittoria ed il secondo posto conquistati nei Campionati Mondiali a Coppie Femminili in tandem con Betty Ann Kennedy nel 1978 e nel 1982 e una medaglia di bronzo con Lou Bluhm nel Mondiale Misto del 1978 a New Orleans.

 Carol ha anche conseguito un impressionante  numero di vittorie (17) e piazzamenti (18) nel circuito Nord Americano tanto che nel solo 1993 colleziono più di 14.000 master point! ed è una delle sole 7 atlete che si possono fregiare della prestigiosa Triple Crown (Venice Cup, Olimpiadi e Mondiale a Coppie).

 Tra i NABC vinti ricordiamo il Whitehead del 1993 e gli Sternberg (1990, 1992, 1995).

 Nel 2002 è stata eletta nella Hall of Fame assieme al marito Tommy, valente bridgista anche lui, che ha sposato nel 1956 dandogli 6 figli e vincendo giocando in coppia con lui in giro per il mondo numerosi trofei.

 È scomparsa il 27 agosto del 2012 pochi mesi dopo la morte del marito.

  Carol was born in Nashville, TE in 1932, along with her husband Tommy were co-recipients of the von Zedtwitz Award, which recognizes contributions to bridge through bridge-playing expertise or contributions to the game outside their area of bridge expertise.

The Sanders, affectionately known by their friends as Mama and Papa Bear, were married in 1956. They have six children and 14 grandchildren.

Carol and Tommy are longtime ACBL Grand Life Masters. Carol is a World Bridge Federation Grand Master. She won the Venice Cup in 1974 and 1976, the World Women’s Pairs in 1982 and the Women’s Team Olympiad in 1984. In addition, she was the non-playing captain of the winning Venice Cup team in 1987. She has won numerous North American championships.

The Sanders were co-panelists for The Bridge World’s "Master Solvers' Forum" for more than 30 years.

Carol and Tommy have traveled extensively for bridge. They won the Israeli Swiss Team Championship in 1986, the Taipei Bridge Week Championship in 1979, the Beijing International Friendship Cup in 1986 and the Beijing Ambassador’s Cup in 1987.

Carol was also a trustee of the ACBL Charity Foundation from 1989 to 1997 and has been a vice chairman of the ACBL Goodwill Committee since the Eighties.

She disappeared in 2012 a few months after her husband's death.
