Göran Mattsson nacque nel 1942 ad Hässleholm una città della Svezia centrale circa 90Km a nordest di Malmoe e, dopo aver iniziato gli studi a Lund, li concluse a Colonia in Germania dove si trasferì nel 1966.

Dal 1970 ha sempre lavorato in Germania come interprete, traduttore e speaker.
Ha imparato il bridge al Bridge Club Universitario di Lund che ha licenziato diversi importanti giocatori come Hans Olof Hallén (che è stato direttore di torneo europeo) e Alvar Stenberg (l'inventore della convenzione di 2SA).
Ha ricoperto diverse posizioni amministrative in seno sia alla Federazione Tedesca, che a quella Europea, che a quella Mondiale.
Come giocatore si è messo in luce sul piano internazionale quando ha fatto coppia con Egmont von Dewitz ed è entrato in pianta stabile nella nazionale tedesca.
Oltre ad aver conquistato diversi titoli e piazzamenti nei Campionati nazionali e in diversi Tornei Internazionali, Goran ha vinto i Campionati Europei a Coppie Senior del 2001 (dopo aver conquistato l'argento in quelli del 1997) e i Campionati a Squadre Senior del 2006. Ha anche conquistato un bronzo nelle Olimpiadi a Squadre Senior nel 2004 e nei Europei Transnazionali a Squadre Senior del 2005.
Ai Campionati del MEC ha conquistato l'argento nello Squadre Open del 1985 e nello Squadre Senior del 1998, l'oro nel Coppie Open del 1977.
Göran was born in 1942 in Hässleholm,
Sweden and moved 1966 to Cologne as a student, where he completed the studies he
had started at Lund University in Sweden. Since 1970 he has been self-employed
as an interpreter, translator and speaker.
He started learning bridge at the University Bridge Club in Lund/Sweden 1961 the hard way (the club had many wellknown players as Hans Olof Hallén (european tournament director) and Alvar Stenberg (2NT-convention))
The international world of bridge he entered in 1970 when he played with the famous German champion Egmont von Dewitz (1907-1984) at the Pairs World Championships in Stockholm and became a regular member of the German Open Team.
1977 he won the Pairs Championship of the EEC and was later runner-up in the EEC open and senior team events.
As a senior he have won (with Hans Humburg) the EBL Pairs Championships in Sorrento in 2001 (in 1997 we were runner-up) and in 2006 he was a member of the winning German Seniors Team (Hans Humburg, Werner Schneider, Horst-Dieter Uhlmann, Bernhard Sträter, Ulrich Kratz) in the European Team Championships in Warsaw.
