Göran Mattsson nacque il 20 febbraio del 1942 ad Hässleholm una città della Svezia meridionale circa 90Km a nordest di Malmoe e, dopo aver iniziato gli studi a Lund, li concluse a Colonia in Germania dove si trasferì nel 1966.

Dal 1970 ha sempre lavorato in Germania come interprete, traduttore e speaker.
Ha imparato il bridge al Bridge Club Universitario di Lund che ha licenziato diversi importanti giocatori come Hans Olof Hallén (che è stato direttore di torneo europeo) e Alvar Stenberg (l'inventore della convenzione di 2SA).
Ha ricoperto diverse posizioni amministrative in seno sia alla Federazione Tedesca di cui è anche stato Presidente, che a quella Europea, che a quella Mondiale.
Come giocatore si è messo in luce sul piano internazionale quando ha fatto coppia con Egmont von Dewitz ed è entrato in pianta stabile nella nazionale tedesca.
Oltre ad aver conquistato diversi titoli e piazzamenti nei campionati nazionali e in diversi tornei internazionali, Göran ha vinto i Campionati Europei a Coppie Senior del 2001 (dopo aver conquistato l'argento in quelli del 1997) e i Campionati a Squadre Senior del 2006. Ha anche conquistato un bronzo nelle Olimpiadi a Squadre Senior nel 2004 e nei Europei Transnazionali a Squadre Senior del 2005.
Ai Campionati del MEC ha conquistato l'argento nello Squadre Open del 1985 e nello Squadre Senior del 1998, l'oro nel Coppie Open del 1977.
Göran Mattsson è scomparso nel 2023.
Göran Mattsson was
born in February 20, 1942 in Hässleholm, Sweden. He moved to Cologne as a student, where he
completed the studies he had started at Lund University in Sweden. Since 1970 he
has been self-employed as an interpreter, translator and speaker.
He entered the international world of bridge in 1970 when he partnered the old German champion Egmont von Dewitz at the Pairs World Championships in Stockholm. He became a regular member of the German open team. He won the 1977 Pairs Championship of the EEC and was runner-up in the EEC open and senior team events. As a senior he won the EBL Pairs Championships in Sorrento in 2001 (in 1997 he was runner-up).
In 1981 he was elected chairman of the largest district of the German Bridge Federation with (now) 85 clubs and 7000 members.
In 1996 he became chairman of the advisory board of the German Bridge Federation consisting of the chairmen of the 13 German bridge districts.
In 2000 he was elected vice-president of the German Bridge Federation, where his field of activities included organizing the further development of the federation’s headquarters as well as acting as the legal representative of the president of the federation.
In 2002 he was elected president of the German Bridge Federation.
Göran is disappeared in 2023.
