Harry J.  FISHBEIN

 

  Di New York City (18 aprile 1897 - 1 febbraio 1976) è stato un giocatore professionista di pallacanestro e un forte giocatore americano che ha ideato la convenzione che porta il suo nome.

 Per un quarto di secolo è stato l'amabile co-proprietario e Direttore del famosissimo Mayfair Bridge Club di New York.

 Ha fatto parte alcune volte della rappresentativa statunitense e nel 1960 è stato capitano non giocatore del team USA alle Olimpiadi e nel 1959 all'età di 61 anni giocò per prima volta nella Bermuda Bowl.

 In campo nazionale ha vinto tra l'altro 16 NABC tra i quali ricordiamo, 5 Vanderbilt (1936, 1943, 1947, 1949, 1958), il Wernher del 1959 ed il Mitchell del 1965.

 Ha ideato la convenzione di intervento sui barrage che porta il suo nome.

 Dal 1952 al 1966 fu tesoriere della ACBL rifiutando qualsiasi compenso, motivo per il quale l'ACBL ha istituito il premio Sally Fishbein, che premia il giocatore che consegue il maggior numero di Master Point nei Summer NABC's, e che ricorda sua moglie.

 Nel 2000 la ACBL gli ha concesso l'onore di far parte della Hall of Fame.

New York City (18 April 1897 - 1 February 1976) was a professional basketball player and a strong American bridge player who created the convention that bears his name.

For a quarter century it has been the amiable co-owner and director of the famous Bridge Mayfair Club in New York.

He was part of several times the US representative and  in 1960 was non-playing captain of the US team at the Olympics and in 1959. At the age of 61 years he played for first time in the Bermuda Bowl.

On the domestic won 16 NABC among which we remember, 5 Vanderbilt (1936, 1943, 1947, 1949, 1958), the Wernher 1959 and Mitchell 1965.

He conceived the Convention on intervention barrage that bears his name.

From 1952 to 1966 he was treasurer of the ACBL refusing any compensation, why the ACBL has created the award Sally Fishbein, which rewards the player who achieves the highest number of Master Point in the Summer NABC's, and who remembers his wife.

In 2000 the ACBL has granted him the honor of being part of the Hall of Fame..
