Mark  HORTON

 Nato il 22 febbraio del 1950, Mark, che ha vissuto a lungo a Nottingham, è un avvocato ed un ex campione di scacchi, molto noto per essere il capo editore della European Bridge League un gioco per cui passata la quarantina ha messo in secondo piano gli scacchi. Abbandonata la carriera legale, oggi è un consulente che presta la sua opera in tutte le questioni connesse con il mondo di bridge. 

 Editore di Bridge Magazine fin dal 1995, Ratty un soprannome affibbiatogli da un ex fidanzata, è già stato sposato con la campionessa Sally Brock e con Vera Nesterovich con la quale ha vissuto in Romford una cittadina di circa a 30Km a est di Londra, città dove si recava spesso a causa del suo lavoro.

 Come giocatore Mark ha vinto diversi titoli nazionali tra i quali ricordiamo la Crockford's Cup, la Spring Foursomes, i Grand Master Pairs e i Life Master Pairs; sul piano internazionale ha, invece, vinto "The Hoechst", la Dunhill Cup, l'argento nei Campionati a Squadre Misti del MEC nel 1996 ed è arrivato in finale nella Reisinger Cup americana. 

 Mark ha anche capitanato la squadra femminile della Gran Bretagna che si è aggiudicata la medaglia d'argento nelle Olimpiadi del 1992 a Salsomaggiore Terme.

 Mark ha molti hobbies quali la lettura, la cucina, i vecchi film, il teatro (specialmente l'Opera e i Balletti), l'enologia e gli scacchi nei quali ha conquistato un paio di titoli inglesi di specialità.

Dotato di un fantastico senso dell'humor che si riverbera nei suoi scritti, Mark oggi vive a Shrewsbury, una cittadina non lontana da Birmingham, assieme alla terza moglie Liz Granato.

Born on February 22, 1950, Mark, who lived in Nottingham for a long time, is a lawyer and a former chess champion, well known for being the head editor of the European Bridge League a game for which past forty has put in the background the chess.

Having abandoned his legal career, today he is a consultant who provides his services in all matters connected with the bridge world.

Publisher of Bridge Magazine since 1995, Ratty, a nickname given to him by an ex-girlfriend, has already been married to champion Sally Brock and with Vera Nesterovich with whom he lived in Romford, a town about 30km east of London, the city where he often went because of his work.

As a player, Mark has won several national titles including the Crockford's Cup, the Spring Foursomes, the Grand Master Pairs and the Life Master Pairs; at the international level, however, he won "The Hoechst", the "Dunhill Cup" and earned the silver in the MEC Mixed Teams Championships in 1996 and reached the final in the American Reisinger Cup.

Mark also captained the women's team from Great Britain who won the silver medal at the 1992 Olympics in Salsomaggiore Terme.

Mark has many hobbies such as reading, cooking, old movies, theater (especially the Opera and Ballet), enology and chess where he won a couple of British specialty titles.

Endowed with a fantastic sense of humor that reverberates in his writings, Mark today lives in Shrewsbury, a town not far from Birmingham, along with his third wife Liz Granato.
