Il bridge è entrato nella sua vita relativamente tardi, quando aveva già compiuto 24 anni, eppure, Maria solo un anno più tardi, già conquistava il 3° posto ai Campionati Europei Femminili!

 Negli ultimi vent'anni Maria ha vissuto a Rattenberg una cittadina situata  nell'incanto del Tirolo, 50 km ad Est di Innsbruck, lavorando nello studio medico di suo marito Peter.

 Questa sistemazione ha ridotto le possibilità di allenarsi con la squadra femminile austriaca perché la sua città distava quattro ore di auto da Vienna, però, gli ha consentito di curare meglio gli altri suoi hobbies: lo sci, il tennis, il golf e, non ultimo, anche di impegnarsi assai lodevolmente nell'assistenza sociale.

 Maria ha colto il suo più prestigioso successo a Salsomaggiore vincendo le Olimpiadi Femminili ma, l'insieme dei suoi risultati le hanno fatto conquistare assieme alla qualifica di World Grand Master anche una posizione stabile tra i primi 50 posti nella speciale classifica delle migliori giocatrici del mondo edita dalla W.B.F.

Tra le sue vittorie ricordiamo la vittoria nel Campionato Europeo Misto di Montecarlo nel 1996,  quella nella Mc Connel Cup di Lille nel 1998, l'argento nella Venice Cup del 1991 a Yokohama, il primo posto al Campionato Europeo a Squadre Miste di Ostenda nel 2002 fungendo da rinforzo al Lavazza Team, la vittoria nell'Europeo a Coppie Femminili di Mentone 2003 e l'oro nel primo Mondiale Individuale di Categoria nel  1992 a Parigi.

Maria è scomparsa il 2 settembre del 2011 dopo una lunga lotta con una malattia invalidante.

Born 1944 in Vienna, Maria did her studies at the world trade university there, started her job in merchandising, afterwards in a leading position of marketing research.

Bridge came to her life relatively late at the age of 24, but just a year later she won her first (bronze) medal at the Women's European Championships. Some years of playing in the Austrian Open team were followed by sabbatical years following career commitments and illness, and then she started playing again in the European and World majors, with great success with the young Austrian women team, and also won some of the large European pairs tournaments with different partners.

For 15 years she has lived in the beautiful Tyrol, married to Peter, a medical doctor, where she does her job as a medical assistant and looks after the commercial side of his profession.

It takes more than four hours to go to Vienna and restricts the opportunity for training with her teammates, but affords her more time and opportunities to pursue her other hobbies, like being responsible for the social community affairs of her city's government, skiing, playing tennis and golf, sometimes treating Peter's piano and sometimes going to the great music festivals of Salzburg and Bayreuth.

Among his victories include winning the European Championship Mixed Monte Carlo in 1996, Mc Connel Cup in Lille in 1998, silver in the 1991 Venice Cup in Yokohama, the first mixed team to European Championship in Ostend in 2002 acting as a reinforcement to the Lavazza team, the victory in the European Ladies Pairs of Menton 2003 and the first World Cup gold in Individual Category in 1992 in Paris.

Maria Kirner Erhart (* 1944 Wien; † 2011 Wien) der österreichische Bridgesport verliert eine der weltbesten Spielerinnen und eine der schillerndsten Persönlichkeiten der internationalen Bridgeszene. Kampf- und Teamgeist, Tischpräsenz, Gefühl und Fairness gegenüber dem Gegner zeichneten Maria aus.
