Kitty  MUNSON, Steve COOPER, Henry e Paul BETHE

 

 Di origini norvegesi, Kitty Munson è nata e cresciuta a New York ma si è laureata con lode alla Harvard University di Boston nel 1972 è una genealogista genetica e un'esperta di informatica nonché un'insegnante ed una campionessa di bridge.

 Kitty conobbe il gioco dalla madre all'età di 12 anni ma non partecipò a gare vere e proprie fin dopo la laurea quando cominciò a frequentare i circoli di Boston.

 Sposata prima con Henry Bethe (nella foto a destra) e poi con  Steven Cooper di cui è vedova dal 2021 (nella foto accanto a lei) ha vinto  un Campionato Nazionale di Misto con entrambi (due con Steve) in un totale di 8 NABC.

 Oggi vive a Lakeside in California e fa spesso coppia con il figlio Paul Bethe (nella foto a destra) che, nemmeno a dirlo, gioca bene a bridge.

 Vincitrice di una decina di NABC, la sua maggiore affermazione è nella vittoria della Venice Cup del 1989 competizione nella quale vinse anche l'argento nel 1995.

Avendo vissuto a Londra negli anni '80 partecipò con la squadra britannica ai Campionati del MEC vincendo il titolo a Squadre Miste del 1987 e guadagnando il bronzo nello Squadre Femminile Europeo lo stesso anno.

Attualmente è una World Women Life Master che dopo aver vissuto in Albuquerque si è spostata a Fort Collins nel Colorado.

Steven Mark Cooper è nato il 9 aprile del 1947 a New York  si è diplomato alla Horace Mann di Riverdale e si è  laureato alla New York University.

Nella sua carriera bridgistica assieme ad altri titoli minori ha vinto due NABC giocando in coppia con la moglie.

Ha insegnato legge ed era pensionato quando ci ha lasciato a causa di un cancro prostatico il 30 marzo 2021 dopo aver vissuto a lungo a Lakeside presso San Diego con Kitty.

Henry Bethe, che era nato il 20 febbraio del 1944 a Cayuga Heights (una cittadina sulla sponda sud dell'omonimo lago) e che era il figlio del Premio Nobel Hans Albrecht Bethe, ha studiato presso la Phillips Exeter Academy si era laureato presso l'Università del Wisconsin.

ACBL Grand Life Master nella sua carriera bridgistica vinse 3 NABC tra i quali il Silodor del 1991.

Esperto commentatore di Vugraph, è scomparso ad Ithaca il 7 giugno 2015.

 Of Norwegian descent, Kitty Munson was born and raised in New York but graduated cum laude from Harvard University in Boston in 1972. She is a genetic genealogist and computer scientist as well as a bridge teacher and champion.

Kitty learned about the game from her mother at the age of 12 but she did not participate in actual competitions until after graduation when she began attending Boston clubs.

Married first to Henry Bethe (in the photo on the right) and then to Steven Cooper whose widow she has been since 2021 (in the photo next to her) she won a National Mixed Championship with both (two with Steve) in a total of 8 NABCs.

She now lives in Lakeside in California and is often paired with her son Paul Bethe (in the second photo on the right) who, needless to say, plays bridge well.

She is a winner of a dozen NABC, her biggest achievement is her victory in the 1989 Venice Cup competition in which she also won silver in 1995.

Having lived in London in the 1980s she participated with the British team at the MEC Championships winning the 1987 Mixed Teams title and earning bronze in the European Women's Teams the same year.

She is currently a World Women Life Master who after living in Albuquerque moved to Fort Collins Colorado.

Steven Mark Cooper was born on April 9, 1947 in New York City and graduated from Horace Mann High School of Riverdale and graduated from New York University.

In his bridge career, together with other minor titles, he won two NABC playing in pairs with his wife.

He taught law and was retired when he passed away with prostate cancer on March 30, 2021 after having lived for a long time in Lakeside near San Diego with Kitty.

Henry Bethe, who was born on February 20, 1944 in Cayuga Heights (a town on the south shore of the lake of the same name) and who was the son of Nobel Prize winner Hans Albrecht Bethe, studied at the Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated from the University of Wisconsin.

ACBL Grand Life Master in his bridge career he won 3 NABC including the 1991 Silodor.
