Michael  BAREL

 

 Michael Barel è nato a Mosca l'11 aprile del 1970 ma la sua famiglia è emigrata in Israele quando aveva 6 anni.

 Dai 7 ai 17 anni Michael si è dedicato agli scacchi con discreto successo ma, poi il bridge è diventato la principale attività della sua vita.

 Ha lavorato presso la Microsoft per 12 anni come sviluppatore software ed oggi è sposato con Meital con cui ha un figlio che a tre anni già mostra i primi segni di interessamento per il bridge!

 Michael ha vinto diversi titoli israeliani ed ha fatto spesso parte della nazionale del suo paese di adozione fin dal 1966.

 Da juniores ha vinto il Campionato del MEC nel 1993.

 Come Open ha conquistato l'argento agli Europei Transnazionali a Squadre del 2009, un bronzo agli Europei a Squadre Open del 2010, un argento nel Transnazionale Mondiale del 2001.

 Ha anche vinto tre volte la NEC Cup (2005, 2006 e 2008) arrivando una quarta, secondo nel 2004.

 Infine, come capitano non giocatore della nazionale giovanile israeliana ha conquistato due bronzi ed un argento ai Campionati Europei Juniores a Squadre (1998, 2000 e 2004) ed ha guadagnato l'argento in quelli Mondiali del 2001.

Michael was born 1970 in Moscow , Russia and emigrated to Israel with his family at the age of 6.  

 Michael has been a serious chess player from the age of 7, but eventually moved to bridge at the age of 17.

He has been working as a software engineer in a high-tech company for the last 12 years.  

He is married to Meital, a childhood friend of his partner’s wife, and father to Hillel, who is already expressing an interest in learning bridge.

Michael has won won many National titles in Israel (Open pairs championship, Premier league for Teams, Israeli Teams Cup) and represented Israel’s Open team several times since 1996.

He began winning the Junior Championship in 1993 MEC.

After he won the silver medal at the European Transnational Teams in 2009, a bronze at the European Open Teams in 2010, a silver in the Transnational World of 2001.

He also won NEC Cup three times (2005, 2006 and 2008) reaching a fourth, the second position in 2004.

Finally, as non-playing captain of the Israeli national youth won two bronze medals and a silver at the European Junior Team Championships (1998, 2000 and 2004) and earned the silver in the 2001 World Cup.
