Jim e Bob Sharples sono due gemelli nati nel maggio del 1908 a Caterham on the Hill una trentina di km a sud della capitale  ed educati nella non lontana Tonbridge School.

 I gemelli Sharples, che avevano una sorella maggiore, sono stati una figura leggendaria del bridge londinese, quasi identici, non si sono mai sposati, si vestivano allo stesso modo ed hanno vissuto per tutta la loro vita nella casa di famiglia, dividendo tutte le loro passioni ma conservando un individualità economica quasi paranoica.

 I due conobbero il bridge da giovanissimi e formarono una coppia capace di arrivare a vincere l'argento ai Campionati Europei a Squadre del 1958. Indimenticabili per il London Duplicate Bridge Club che frequentavano regolarmente, sempre giocando in coppia vinsero 21 titoli nazionali e rappresentarono più volte l'Inghilterra nei Campionati Britannici.

 Insuperabili per il loro feeling in dichiarazione, vinsero per 11 mesi consecutivi la sfida licitativa proposta dalla celebre rivista Bride Magazine prima di ritirarsi imbattuti nel 1970.

 Quando scoppiò la guerra, Jim servì nella Royal Navy mentre Bob nei Royal Marines e nelle loro lettere non facevano che parlarsi di bridge.

La coppia fu rotta solo dal destino che si portò via per primo Jim il 3 ottobre del 1985, mentre, il fratello continuò a giocare a bridge per niente soddisfatto dei suoi partner per altri 14 anni e scomparve nel settembre del 1999.

  Jim and Bob Sharples are twins born in May 1908 in Caterham on the Hill about thirty kilometers south of the capital and educated in the nearby Tonbridge School.

The twins Sharples, who had an older sister, have been a legendary figure of London Bridge, almost identical, they never married, they dressed the same way and have lived all their lives in the family home, sharing all their passions but retaining an almost paranoid economic individuality.

The twins met the bridge when they are very young and formed a indissoluble pair able to win a silver medal at the European  Teams Championships in 1958. Unforgettable for the London Duplicate Bridge Club who attended regularly, always playing paired won 21 national titles and represented England several times in the British Championships.

Unsurpassed for their feeling in the declaration, won for 11 consecutive months  the challenge proposed by the famous  Bride Magazine before retiring undefeated in 1970.

When the war broke out , Jim served in the Royal Navy and Bob in the Royal Marines and in their letters they speak always about bridge.

The pair was broken only by fate that took away first Jim on October 3, 1985, while his brother continued to play bridge at all satisfied with his partnership for 14 years, and disappeared in September 1999.
