George Bernard  SHAW

 

 George Bernard Shaw è nato a Dublino il 26 luglio del 1856 ed è stato uno scrittore, drammaturgo, linguista, sceneggiatore e critico musicale che ha vinto il premio Nobel per la letteratura nel 1925.

 Assieme a Bob Dylan sono stati gli unici due a vincere il Nobel per la letteratura e l'Oscar.

 A 20 anni lascio l'Irlanda e raggiunse la madre a Londra dove si dedicò alla stesura dei suoi primi romanzi.

 Vegetariano, antivivisezionista iniziò a farsi conoscere prima come critico letterario e poi come critico musicale.

 Il matrimonio con Charlotte Payne Townshend gli fornì i mezzi per abbandonare il giornalismo per merito del quale aveva vissuto fino a quel momento.

 Fu un fervente sostenitore dello stalinismo e un praticante di bridge ricoprendo anche la carica di presidente del suo circolo cittadino.

 Scomparve a Ayot St. Lawrence il 2 novembre del 1950.

  George Bernard Shaw was born in Dublin on July 26, 1856 and was a writer, playwright, linguist, screenwriter and music critic who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1925.

Together with Bob Dylan they were the only two to win the Nobel Prize for literature and the Oscar.

At 20 he left Ireland and joined his mother in London where he devoted himself to writing his first novels.

Vegetarian, antivivisectionist, he began to make himself known first as a literary critic and then as a music critic.

His marriage to Charlotte Payne Townshend provided him with the means to quit journalism for which he had lived up to that point.

He was a fervent supporter of Stalinism and a bridge practitioner, also holding the position of president of his city club.

He disappeared in Ayot St. Lawrence on November 2, 1950.
