Sandro Salvetti nacque nel 1922 a Genova ed è stato un industriale milanese che ha ricoperto diversi incarichi nell'amministrazione delle cose del bridge.
Componente del Consiglio FIB negli anni tra il '60 e l'80 è stato uno dei più famosi capitani non giocatori delle squadre azzurre.
In tale veste ha vinto tre Campionati Europei a Squadre (1973, 1975 e 1979) arrivando all'argento nel 1977, 3 Bermuda Bowl consecutive (1973, 1974, 1975) arrivando all'argento in quelle del 1976 e del 1979 e nelle Olimpiadi del 1976.
É scomparso a Milano nel 2000.
