Brian GLUBOK

 

 Brian Gublok è nato nel 1959 a New York divide il suo tempo tra New York e Sydney ed è per questo assai conosciuto nei due Continenti.

 Uomo dai multiformi interessi, oltre che professionista del bridge, Brian è novellista ed ama viaggiare, andare in bici, la musica rock, la storia, la letteratura, il frisbee ed il back gammon. Inoltre, è un apprezzato articolista di "The Bridge World", "ACBL Bulletin, "Popular Bridge", "Australian Bridge" e "New Zealand Bridge".

 Brian ha studiato arti liberali all'esclusivo Amherst College e grazie alla sua precocità, all'età di 15 anni era già un ACBL Life Master e due anni più tardi era finalista nella prestigiosa Reisinger.

 Ha vinto tre volte il Cavendish Teams (1984, 1988, 1993) ed è vice campione IMSA a Coppie Open (1998) e vice Campione Mondiale a Coppie Open nel 2010.

 Nel circuito americano ha vinto tra l'altro: la Spingold nel 1987, la Reisinger nel 1990 e per tre anni consecutivi dal 1996 il Jacoby. É stato anche Campione Australiano in più specialità.

Brian Glubok (b. 1959) of New York City, bridge professional, novelist, rubber bridge player, graduate of Amherst College. Interests include writing, travel, cycling, rock music, current events, sports, history, literature, Frisbee, backgammon, meditation and political science.

Since 1985 he has divided time between New York and Sydney, Australia. In 1989 was granted residency status in Australia (in recognition of his bridge achievements) through the category “Special Talents – Sporting”. Became Life Master at age 15 and his first major win was Eastern States KO Teams 1980 – the youngest ever to win this event at 20, breaking the record of Kyle Larsen who first won it in 1973 at the age of 23.

At 17 was a finalist in NABC Reisinger partnered by Oswald Jacoby. At 18 again partnered with Oswald Jacoby he competed in the 50th annual Goldman Pairs. Jacoby, who had won his first Goldman in 1927, advised Glubok to “quit bridge and go back to college.” Winner with Edgar Kaplan of the International Bridge Press Association ROMEX AWARD for the best bid hand of 1990-91.

A WBF World International Master, he placed second in the World Open Pairs 2010; won Gold Medal in Maccabean Games 1983; won Australian National Open Teams 1990 (second in 1987). Has placed high in International money tournaments. A four-time winner of the Cavendish Teams, most recent 1993, 3rd 1990, 4th 1991; Canadian Invitational Pairs 1st 1993, 2nd 1992; has had dozens of regional wins. He also won: Spingold 1987, Reisinger 1990, Jacoby (1996, 1997, 1998).

A contributor to The Bridge World, ACBL Bulletin, Popular Bridge, Australian Bridge, New Zealand Bridge. He also writes on non-bridge subjects.
