Mitch Dunitz è nato il 10 settembre del 1956 a Detroit ed oggi vive a Los Angeles.
Ha studiato presso la West Bloomfield High School e si laureato in legge presso l'Università del Michigan.
Sposato con Jody, ha avuto due figli: Amy e Danny.
Giocatore molto noto nel circuito americano è un World Master che ha vinto due NACB: il Grand National Team del 2001 ed il Mitchell del 2021.
Sponsor del "Bridge Ethics and Education Corporation" e di molte altre iniziative specialmente in campo universitario, nel 2025 ha ricevuto in riconoscimento dei suoi meriti il Sidney H. Lazard Jr. Sportsmanship Award.
