Nato a Vercelli nel 1940 ma biellese d'adozione, dopo aver avuto un brillante avvio professionale in campo assicurativo, si è dedicato all'editoria ed all'imprenditoria televisiva.
Bridgista di spicco degli anni '70, è arrivato a conquistare l'argento nel Mondiale a Coppie del 1974 ed ha elaborato un suo personale sistema dichiarativo il Burgay System.
Attore di un controverso e mai chiarito episodio che coinvolse la FIB nel 1976 è tornato al Bridge agonistico negli anni '90 con buoni risultati.
Ha conquistato due Campionati Italiani a Squadre nel 1993 e nel 1996, l'argento agli Europei a Squadre del MEC nel 1996, l'argento nell'Europeo a Coppie 2001, il bronzo nella Rosenblum del 2002.
Ha anche vinto i Transnational Open Teams del 1997 e del 2003 ed il Patton di Biarritz nel 1995.
