Nato nel 1945 a Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo de Lima Castello Branco oltre ad essere stato ingegnere informatico e rappresentante del governo brasiliano è anche stato uno dei più forti giocatori del mondo.
World Grand Master, è il secondo dei brasiliani nella classifica dei giocatori in attività edita dalla WBF dietro al grande Gabriel Chagas.
Marcelo è uno dei soli 10 giocatori al mondo ad essersi potuto fregiare della "The Triple Crown": Olimpiadi, Bermuda Bowls e Campionato Mondiale a Coppie Libere.
Ha vinto i Campionati Sud Americani 12 volte e quelli nazionali 10 volte, ha poi anche vinto la Reisinger nel 1992 e il Cap Gemini nel 1993.
