I World Bridge Games sono nati nel 1960 come giochi olimpici estivi e si disputavano negli stessi anni in cui si tenevano le Olimpiadi estive
Nel 2008 e nel 2012 sono stati incorporati negli World Mind Sport Games organizzati dalla IMSA per i 5 giochi della mente: Bridge, Chess, Draught, Go and Chinese Chess
Ogni Paese associato alla WBF può iscrivere una squadra per ogni categoria ed un illimitato numero di coppie per le gare a coppie
Nel 2008 per la prima edizione dei World Mind Sport Games sono stati inclusi anche i Campionati Mondiali Giovanili
The World Bridge Games (previously up to 2004 Bridge Olympiads, founded in 1960), are held every four years in the Summer Olympic Year (in 2008 and 2012 the World Bridge Games have been incorporated in the World Mind Sports Games – WMSG – organised by the International Mind Sport Association – IMSA – and participated by the Mind Sports Federations: Bridge, Chess, Draught, Go and Chinese Chess)
The World Bridge Games include National Open & Women’s Teams (since 1960), National Seniors Teams (since 2000), National Mixed Teams (since 2016) and National Open, Women ‘s, Seniors & Mixed Pairs (starting 2016).
Each WBF NBO is entitled to one national team and unlimited national pairs in each category (in 2008, the 1st edition of the World Mind Sports Games included also World Youth Pairs, Teams and Individual)
