Daniela  VON ARNIM

 

 Daniela è nata nel 1964 a Wiesbaden ma, a causa di un trasferimento per motivi di lavoro del padre, ha vissuto i primi 5 anni della sua vita a Hong Kong dove ha imparato l'inglese ed un pizzico di cinese.

 Ha studiato per qualche tempo chimica presso l'Università di Magonza e poi ha cambiato indirizzo iscrivendosi all'Università di Francoforte alla facoltà di Scienze Informatiche.  

 Ha imparato il bridge dai genitori, entrambi bridgisti e a 15 anni ha fatto il suo esordio nel circolo cittadino giocando in coppia con la mamma.

 Daniela ora vive a Heidelberg, un piccolo centro del Baden Wuttemberg ed è co-propretaria con il noto bridgista Georg Nippgen di una piccola società di consulenza nella vicina Karlsruhe.

 Daniela è sposata con Klaus Reps, uno dei più forti giocatori tedeschi che è anche il fratello di una frequente sua compagna di squadra Katrin Farwig, e che è stato il capitano della Squadra Femminile tedesca in molte occasioni.

Daniela oltre il bridge, ama leggere, fare ginnastica, fare immersioni e giocare a  dadi.

La sua prima medaglia è un bronzo ai Campionati del MEC del 1985, nel suo palmares, assieme ad altri numerosi e prestigiosi piazzamenti, spiccano i due ori e i tre argenti nella Venice Cup, l'oro nei Campionato Europeo Ladies del 1989 e l'argento in quelli del 2002, la vittoria nel Campionato Mondiale a Coppie Ladies del 1995 ed il bronzo negli Europei Transnazionali a Squadre del 2009.

E' insignita del titolo di World Woman Grand Master dove figura stabilmente ai primi posti in classifica.

Oggi vive a Heidelberg con sua figlia Lara.

Von Arnim, was born in Hong Kong in 1964 but moved to Germany when she was 5.

She jas two sisters. Her father worked in German TV as a cameraman, and when she was five months old, he was sent to Hong Kong. The  family was there five years, and she learned English and a little Chinese! She returned to Germany in 1969, and since then she have lived mostly near Wiesbaden.

Her mother played bridge at a club. Her father also played though just at home. When she was 15 years old she learned and partnered her mother at the local club.

She went to Mainz University to study chemistry, but did not like it, and switched to Frankfurt to study Computer Information Systems.

In 1985 she partnered Pony Nehmert in the EEC teams in Bordeaux with Sabine Auken & Anna Moller as team-mates, and they won the bronze medal. In the same year Sabine & Daniela won the German Junior Championship, and we played together the following year in Miami where they came 7th in the Ladies Pairs. They have been bridge partners ever since.

In 1987 she was on the German team in the Brighton Europeans. They came about sixth, and in the 1988 Olympiad did not qualify for the knockouts. However, the same German team won the Europeans in Turku in 1989, beating the Netherlands.

When both went to Perth for the Venice Cup, the Netherlands had their revenge, knocking us out in the semi-finals, and we then lost the play-off by 3 imps to Canada.

In 1991 Daniela and Sabine came second in the Killarney Europeans. In Yokohama, in the Venice Cup, they lost to Austria in the quarter-finals by 6 imps. They won every set except one, where theye lost almost a hundred imps! They also lost in the semi-finals of the 1992 Olympiad to Great Britain, and again they lost the play-off, this time to France.

In 1993 in Menton at the Europeans she became friendly with a member of the German Open team, Klaus Reps.

The Ladies just qualified in fourth place for the Venice Cup and she went to Santiago with Klaus as captain for the first time.

She won the silver medal losing to the USA in the final. 1995 was her big year. At the Vilamoura Europeans Sabine & Daniela won the Ladies Pairs and the team took silver. They went to Beijing with Reps as captain and won the Venice Cup. They beat France in the semi-final easily. In the final against the USA they were actually down going into the last set, but won this big to become world champions.

Klaus at the age of 25 became the youngest person to captain a world champion team.

Daniela and Klaus married the following year. In the 1996 Olympiad in Rhodes she lost to Canada in the quarter-final. In Montecatini Sabine & Daniela retained the Ladies Pairs title, and the team came fourth, so we qualify for Tunisia.

She got a job with a bridge-player, Georg Nippgen, in Karlsruhe. She do software development in the field of Company Consultants. 

Today Daniela lives near Wiesbaden with daughter Lara, 8.

She enjoys fitness training, cycling and doing handicrafts with Lara.
