Brian Senior is a self-employed bridge professional. Born in 1953 in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, he now lives in Nottingham with his wife, Nevena (a former European champion from Sofia, Bulgaria), step-son, Kiril, and daughter, Katja.

Brian learnt his bridge under the guidance of his grandmother, does a small amount of straight teaching but mostly divides his time between playing professionally and bridge writing.

As a player, Brian has represented England and Northern Ireland in the British Home International series for the Camrose Trophy. His time in Northern Ireland gave him one of his most satisfying bridge moments, being part of one of only two Northern Ireland teams ever to beat England, and also his worst bridge moment, when the Camrose series was thrown away in the last ten boards when it looked easier to win it (Northern Ireland have still never won the Trophy). Brian has also represented the All-Ireland team at European and Olympiad level and has the highest finish yet recorded by an Irish pair in the European Open Pairs Championship (In partnership with Rory Boland). He has also played for Great Britain on a number of occasions.

He won NEC Cup 2002, 2003, 2015, too.

Brian has won Open tournaments all over the world, often in partnership with Nevena.

He has been non-playing captain of Irish Junior and Ladies teams and coach of the British Ladies.

Brian has written many books on bridge. He was the last editor of IPBM magazine before it was closed down in 1999. He is a regular member of the Bulletin team at major championships and is the current editor and publisher of the official World Championship Book series. Brian is also a founder-member of the Five Aces Book Company.

Outside of bridge, Brian's main interests, apart from his daughter who is, of course, the centre of the universe, are Cricket, Soccer, American Football and sport in general. He reads a lot of fantasy and science fiction, plus books on history and popular science. He enjoys travel, which fits in well with his bridge playing, and loves good food, especially Thai, Indian or seafood.
