Gert-Jane che ha vinto la White House del 2005 arrivando terzo in quella dell'anno successivo assieme a diversi titoli nazionali ha anche guadagnato il bronzo nel Transnazionale Mondiale del 2013 ed ha vinto l'Open Pairs di Biarritz nel 2019.

Married to Betty Speelman is a World International Master who now lives in Amsterdam and has won several national titles in addition to the White House in 2005, coming third in the following year. In 2013 he earned the bronze medal in World Open Teams Transnational and he won the 2019 Biarritz Open Pair.
