Jaime Ortiz Patino, ricchissimo magnate dello stagno, è nato a Ginevra nel 1928 ed è stato uno dei migliori giocatori svizzeri ed è tuttora una delle più eminenti personalità del mondo del bridge internazionale.

Con la nazionale elvetica ha partecipato a tutte le più importanti manifestazioni internazionali degli anni cinquanta e sessanta arrivando al bronzo negli Europei a Squadre del 1962, mentre, in ambito nazionale ha conquistato una decina di titoli.
Negli anni '70 e '80 dello scorso secolo è stato prima tesoriere della Lega Europea e Vice Presidente della World Bridge Federation, poi dal 1976 al 1986 Presidente della WBF e da quest'ultima data suo Presidente Emerito.
Nel 1978 è stato eletto Personaggio dell'anno dalla IBPA.
A lui si deve la costituzione delle WBF Zones: America Centrale e Caraibi e Asia Medio Orientale e l'adesione alla WBF di molti importanti Paesi.
Jaime ha anche voluto l'introduzione nel bridge agonistico dei bidding boxes, dei sipari e più in generale dell'informaticca.
Dalla fine degli anni '90 si è trasferita a Marbella ed oggi i suoi principali interessi sono nel mondo del golf.

As President of the World Bridge Federation, he was responsible for some of the important developments in recent years. He introduced the use of table screens
to put an end to suspicions of cheating. He expanded the bounderies of the WBF far around the world including China. He dealt successfully with the delicate political situation caused by the refusal of Arab governments to allow their teams play against Israel.
He was "Personality of the Year" 1977/1978 an award presented by the International Bridge Press Association.
He represented Switzerland in World Team Olympiad 1964, 68, World Open Pairs 1962, Rosenblum Cup 1982, European Championships 1955, 56, 59, 61, 62, 63, 65, 67. Placed fifth in the World Par Point Contest 1961. National titles include Open Teams 1953, 56, 59, 61, KO Teams 1955, 56, 60, 62, 63
