Monroe Ingberman nacque a Brooklyn nel 1935, si laureò alla Università di Chicago e prese il dottorato in matematica alla Northwestern University.
Fu professore di matematica presso la New York University fino al 1983 per poi trasformarsi in options trader presso l'American Stock Exchange e associarsi nella Bear Stearns & Company.
Resta noto nell'universo del bridge soprattutto come teorico per la sua invenzione delle "Fragment Bid" che furono le antesignane delle oggi diffusissime Splinter e per essere stato l'allenatore dei famosi Aces di Ira Corn.
Come giocatore ha vinto 13 titoli Nazionali tra i quali ricordiamo le tre Reisinger Cup del 1970, 76 e 78.
Monroe, perì prematuramente a causa di una polmonite nel 1985 che sopravvenne come complicanza al Morbo di Hodgkin's che lo affliggeva da molti anni.
Mr. Ingberman, who was born in Brooklyn, graduated from
the University of Chicago and received a doctorate in mathematics at
Northwestern University.
He was a professor of mathematics and accounting at New York University until 1983. He then became an options trader on the American Stock Exchange and at his death was associated with Bear Stearns & Company.
He died of pneumonia in White Plains Hospital. He was 50 years old and had suffered for many years from Hodgkin's disease.
