I  Tra il 1989 ed il 1992 si sono disputate le Olimpiadi tra Computer organizzate da David Levy dove una delle specialità di gara erano i programmi che giocavano a bridge ma, i participants erano solo 3 o 4 e la lunghezza della gara si consumava su soli 12 o 16 board. Nel 1993 un Campionato tra bridge computer fu organizzato, con altri programmatori, dallo stesso David Levy . Nel 1994 e nel 1995 un evento del genere fu invece organizzato da Bridge Baron. Nel 1996, il grande Alan Truscott chiese ad Alvin Levy di interessare la ACBL all'organizzazione stabile di un Campionato Mondiale tra Computer, e grazie all'entusiastico interessamento dello stesso Levy (che di David è solo un omonimo), nel 1997 il Campionato si svolse sotto l'egida della ACBL durante i Summer NABC's di Albuquerque. Durante i Campionati inizialmente veniva assegnata sia la palma per il miglior risultato conseguito negli incontri diretti che quella per il s/w migliore nella sola dichiarazione; in un secondo momento è stato assegnato il solo titolo di s/w Campione del Mondo. Dal 1998 il Campionato Mondiale tra Computer viene ospitato a turno dalla WBF, dalla EBL e dalla ACBL trovando ospitalità presso la manifestazione più importante dell'anno.  La formula della gara è a Squadre, con Squadre composta da 4 programmi dello stesso tipo che si sfidano tra loro e con un Round Robin seguito da Semifinali e Finale. Dall'edizione del 2008, i primi 8 robot classificati nel Roun Robin si sfidano in una gara individuale sulla lunghezza di 112 Smazzate per l'assegnazione del titolo Mondiale Individuale. Since 1998, the World Championship of Computer is hosted alternately by the WBF, ACBL and the EBL finding accommodations at the most important event of the year.
