La Federazione Bridge Islandese venne fondata il 26 aprile del 1948 e al termine dell'incontro tra le 6 Associazioni fondatrici fu eletto Presidente l'avvocato Fjeldsted.

  Uno dei fondatori era il giocatore William Sigurðsson che è ancora oggi attivo nei circoli islandesi.

  Dopo l'incontro che si tenne in Reykyavik, si disputò il primo Campionato Nazionale con 25 Squadre in rappresentanza delle 6 Associazioni fondatrice e Bf. Reykjavik che vinse la competizione fu il primo Campione d'Islanda.

  Oggi la BSI conta 28 Associazioni e circa 1000 iscritti che frequentano regolarmente le competizioni agonistiche ma un numero molto più grande di giocatori pratica il gioco durante gli intervalli sul luogo di lavoro o in casa.

La BSI divide i suoi iscritti in 4 Categorie: Open, Women, Senior (over 50) e Junior (under 26).

La BSI è membro della Nordic Bridge Union (NBU), della EBL e della WBF.

Bridge Island Federation was founded 26 apríl 1948. At the meeting, which held in Reykjavík, attended by 25 representatives of 6 companies bridge.

The first BSI President  was a attorney called Fjeldsted.

It's fun to say that William Sigurðsson, who still plays Bridge competition, worked in the first regime.

After meeting local competition among these 6 companies. Bf. Reykjavik won this competition, which might be called the first Island Champion.

Today there are 28 active bridge clubs in all regions. About 1000 people play regular tournament bridge in companies within the BSI, as well as large numbers of people play for fun at home and at work.

Bridge Federation is a member of the Nordic Bridge Union (NBU), European Bridge League (EBL) and the World Bridge Federation (WBF) and sends the team to competition in tournaments on their behalf.
