Jeff WESTHEIMER

Gerald Jeffrey Westheimer detto Jeff, è nato nel 1924, si è laureato al Massachusetts Institute of Technology in ingegneria nucleare ed ha lavorato brevemente nel suo campo di studio prima di dedicarsi alle transazioni di borsa e divenire proprietario di un bridge club.

Sposato dal 1970 con Valerie, una campionessa di livello internazionale, ha colto le sue maggiori affermazioni vincendo la Reisinger del 1969 ed il Cavendish Pairs del 1975 ed alcuni titoli nazionali giocando in coppia con la moglie.

Negli ultimi anni è stato socio del Regency Whist Club in Manhattan.

É scomparso il 3 febbraio del 2014.

Jeff Westheimer, one of the top players of the game in the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s, has been an M.I.T. graduate who worked briefly as an engineer, he became a commodities broker and was also a bridge club manager.

His most successful partnership was with Ira Rubin, who died a year ago. They won the 1969 Reisinger Board-a-Match Teams and were second in the ’69 Spingold and the ’68 and ’69 Vanderbilt Knockout Teams.

Westheimer also won the first Cavendish Invitational Pairs in 1975 with Jim Jacoby, and captured the 1961 Marcus Cup, a national Board-a-Match championship until 1978.

In recent years, he played a lot of Chicago, primarily at the Regency Whist Club in Manhattan. Valerie Westheimer, his wife for nearly 44 years, is a national champion and world silver medalist.

He died on February 3, 2014.
