Semka Sokolović-Bertok nacque  il 22 dicembre del 1935 a Sarajevo nell'allora Yugoslavia (oggi Bosnia- Erzegovina) da una famiglia bosniaca.

 Attrice di cinema e teatro di fama internazionale in gioventù fu una virtuosa degli scacchi vincendo 8 volte il Campionato Croato per Juniores.

 La sorella Badema fu una nota mezzo soprano.

 Sposata con Mario Bertok ebbe un figlio.

 Era ben nota nelle sale da bridge, un gioco che ha sempre amato.

 Morì a causa di un infarto il 4 marzo 2008.
