Garry  SOBERS

 

 Sir Garfield St. Aubrun Sobers è nato il 28 luglio del 1936 a Bridgetown nelle Barbados ed è stato uno dei più grandi campioni di cricket di tutti i tempi.

 Quinto di sei figli, nacque con una malformazione congenita costituita da un dito aggiuntivo per mano che fece rimuovere durante la sua gioventù.

 Dotato di straordinario abilità per ogni gioco con la palla, eccelse nel cricket assieme al fratello Gerald.

 Sobers ha trascorso diverse stagioni nel campionato inglese e ha vissuto un periodo molto difficile quando era alla guida di un auto che ebbe un terribile incidente in cui restò vittima il compagno di squadra Collie Smith.

Garry giocò anche per le Indie Occidentali e in Australia ma, durante tutta la sua formidabile carriera, non perse mai l'occasione di giocare di tanto in tanto con la squadra delle Barbados.

Sposò nel 1969 Prue Kirby un'australiana che gli diede due figli Matthew e Daniel, mentre, la figlia Genevieve l'adottarono. Il matrimonio, che si concluse con il divorzio nel 1990, gli valse la doppia nazionalità.

Garry è stata anche un golfista entusiasta ed un buon bridgista è stato anche nominato eroe nazionale delle Barbados.

Sir Garfield St. Aubrun Sobers was born on July 28, 1936 in Bridgetown, Barbados and was one of the greatest cricket champions of all time.

Fifth of six children, he was born with a congenital malformation consisting of an additional finger by the hand he had removed during his youth.

Equipped with extraordinary skill for every game with the ball, he excelled in cricket so his brother Gerald.

Sobers has spent several seasons in the English league and has experienced a very difficult period when he was driving a car that had a terrible accident in which his teammate Collie Smith was the victim.

Garry also played for the West Indies and Australia but, throughout his formidable career, he never missed the opportunity to play from time to time with the Barbados team.

He married in 1969 Prue Kirby an Australian who gave him two sons Matthew and Daniel, while them daughter Genevieve adopted him. The marriage, which ended in divorce in 1990, earned him dual nationality.

Garry was also an enthusiastic golfer and a good bridge player was also named Barbadian national hero.
