Elsa Maxwell è nata il 24 maggio del 1883 a Keokuk un piccolo centro dello Iowa affacciato sul Mississippi ed è stata una nota giornalista, una buona pianista, ed una celebre organizzatrice di serate mondane che è passata alla storia come "la regina del gossip".

 Il padre era di origine scozzese e Elsa imparò a leggere e scrivere da autodidatta, iniziò come pianista in un piccolo cinema, ma dopo breve si dedicò alla scrittura di canzonette che ebbero straordinario successo.

 Non aveva mai studiato musica, eppure, compose la prima canzone di guerra inglese alla vigilia della prima guerra mondiale!

 Musica, ballo e canzonette le permisero di attirare su di se la simpatia delle persone famose così che poté divenire un organizzatrice di serate mondane di grande successo che fu un'attività che la resa famosa in tutto il mondo.

 Per lungo tempo grassa e sciatta nel vestire, come giornalista è stata la penna più viperina del suo tempo, tanto che George Bernard Show la definì "l'ottava meraviglia del mondo". Scrisse anche un libro di qualche successo "Ho sposato il mondo".

 Fu amica dei potenti di tutto il mondo e con alcuni di loro era solita giocare a bridge.

Scomparve a New York il 1º novembre del 1963.

Elsa Maxwell was born on May 24, 1883 in Keokuk a small center of Iowa on the Mississippi and was a well-known journalist, a good pianist and a celebrated organizer of social events that has become history as "the queen of gossip".

The father was of Scottish origin and Elsa learned to read and write as a self-taught, began as a pianist in a small cinema, but after, she devoted himself to writing songs of extraordinary success.

She had never studied music, but yet she composed the first English war song on the eve of the First World War!

Music, dance and songs allowed her to attract the sympathy of famous people from all over the world, so that she could become an organizer of successful social nights that was made famous everywhere.

For a long time fat and sloppy in dressing, as a journalist was the most little viper pen of her time so much that George Bernard Show called it "the eighth wonder of the world". She also wrote a book of some success "I married the world".

She was a friend of the powerful people around the world and she used to play bridge with some of them.

Disappeared in New York on November 1, 1963.
