Edward Mayer è nato nel 1901 e fino al 1953 è stato un regolare corrispondente di "The Times".

 Avvocato, capo squadriglia RAF, scrittore di bridge, è stato anche un forte giocatore strenuo sostenitore della licita naturale e amante del rubber bridge molto più che del bridge di torneo.

 Sposato due volte, nonostante la sua propensione per il bridge di partita libera, fece parte della nazionale inglese negli Europei del 1934, anno in cui vinse anche il Campionato a Coppie del Belgio.

 Campione a squadre inglese nel 1948/49, vinse anche la Gold Cup nel 1932 e la Crockfords Cup nel 1949.

 Scomparve a Basingstoke nel 1980.

Lawyer, RAF squadron leader, bridge writer, he was also a strong player and a staunch supporter of natural bidding and a lover of rubber bridge much more than tournament bridge.

Twice married, despite his penchant for free-play bridge, he was part of the English national team in the 1934 European Championships, the year in which he also won the Belgian Pairs Championship.

English team champion in 1948/49, he also won the Gold Cup in 1932 and the Crockfords Cup in 1949.

He disappeared in Basingstoke in 1980.
