Ed Franken è nato il 24 giugno del 1943 ad Harlem una cittadina 20Km ad Est di Amsterdam e lì vive molto occupato a giocare a golf, bridge ed allenare la formidabile nazionale femminile dei tulipani.
Ed ha guidato al successo le ladies olandesi ai Campionati Europei del 2002, ripetendosi poi con l'argento in quelle del 2004 e 2006.
Sul piano intercontinentale le sue fortissime atlete hanno guadagnato il bronzo alle Olimpiadi Invernali del 2002 e l'oro nella Venice Cup del 2000 poi seguito dai due bronzi del 2003 e 2005.
Ed lives in Haarlem (west of Amsterdam). He has been the team manager and NPC of
the Dutch women's team since early 1995.
Ed is always really busy; he plays golf, plays bridge and spends a lot of time taking care of the women's team.
When he is around you can be sure everything is organised perfectly. At 5:00 p.m. Ed likes to drink a glass of whiskey so he always has the last match off.
With gold in Bermuda 2000 and bronze respectively in Monte Carlo 2003 and Estoril 2005, he will captain the Dutch women also at European Championship 2002, 2004 and 2006 (one gold and two bronzes)
