Allan Jay Cokin è nato nel 1942 ed è stato un giocatore di livello nazionale ed un bravissimo insegnante.
A livello nazionale Allan, oltre ad una serie di notevoli piazzamenti ha vinto tra l'altro il Mitchell Trophy del 1979.
Nel 1979 dopo tre anni di risultati positivi conseguiti in coppia con Steve Sion che li posero al vertice nazionale, furono accusati di segnalazioni illecite tramite il posizionamento della matita sul tavolo e dopo una lunga querelle giudiziaria durata 4 anni, la coppia fu squalificata dalla Federazione americana per 5 anni.
Riammessi in cambio dell'impegno a non giocare mai più insieme, Allan si dedicò molto più all'insegnamento e Sion fu coinvolto in nuovo caso che ne decretò la radiazione dalla ACBL.
Allan è scomparso a Palm Beach in Florida a causa di un cancro il 1 gennaio del 2014.

Nationally Allan, as well as a number of notable placing won among others the Mitchell Trophy in 1979.
In 1979, after three years of positive results achieved in tandem with Steve Zion, which put them at the top of the national reports were accused of unlawful by the placement of the pencil on the table and after a long legal controversy lasted 4 years, the pair was disqualified from the American Federation for 5 years.
Reinstated in exchange for a commitment to never play more together, Allan devoted himself to teaching and Zion was much more involved in the new case that decreed the radiation from the ACBL.
Allan passed away at Palm Beach, Florida due to cancer on January 1, 2014.
