La Swiss è una di quelle convenzioni che hanno trovato grande fortuna al di là dell'Oceano e che, per questo, ha fatto registrare una serie incredibile di varianti e di estensioni.
La Swiss viene usata licitando 4♣ o 4♦, in risposta alle due Aperture in Quinta nobile quando si hanno 3/5 carte di Appoggio e determinati altri requisiti che variano in funzione del tipo di convenzione e delle estensioni/modificazioni del suo sviluppo.
Nel catalogo oggi abbiamo: la Trump Swiss, la Fruit Machin Swiss, la Key Card Swiss, la Singleton Swiss, la Super Swiss e chi sa di quanto altre non sono mai venuto a sapere il nome.
Il secolo scorso particolare fortuna ebbe la Fruit Machine Swiss.
Con essa si rispondeva all'Apertura Nobile con 4♣ quando si avevano i seguenti requisiti:
3/4 Atout di appoggio al colore di apertura
12+PO
2 Assi
un valore aggiuntivo che poteva essere (un singolo, un terzo Asso, il Re di Atout).
e con 4♦ quando si mostravano gli stessi requisiti ma senza il valore aggiuntivo.
Dopo il 4♣, l'Apertore se lo desiderava poteva farsi specificare il valore aggiuntivo mediante la cheapest bid di 4♦.
Il teorico americano Max Hardy ha proposto più di recente una particolare sistemazione piuttosto complessa che unisce alla Swiss : i Rialzi Bergen, la 2SA Jacoby e le Splinter.
Di tutte le Swiss, desidero presentarvi quella che mi sembra più adeguata ai tempi attuali: la Key Card Swiss.
Con essa si risponde all'Apertura di uno in Nobile alla seguente maniera:
con 2SA Jacoby quando si ha visuale di Slam (16+PO)
con 4♣ quando si hanno i seguenti requisiti:
4/5 Atout di appoggio al colore di apertura
12-15+PO
2 Primary Key Card (le PKC sono 5: i 4 Assi più il Re di Atout)
un valore aggiuntivo che può essere (un singolo, una terza PKC o la Dama di Atout).
con 4♦ quando si hanno gli stessi requisiti ma senza il valore aggiuntivo.
Sul 4♣, l'Apertore chiede chiarimenti con la cheapest bid di 4♦ e li riceve sotto questa forma:

4 nell'altro Nobile = singolo
4SA = una terza PKC
5 in Minore = singolo
Swiss is one of those conventions that found big good fortune
overseas and, because of this, an incredible number of variations and extensions
has been recorded.
Swiss is used bidding 4♣ o 4♦ answering the 5 major openings having 3/5 fitting cards and specific other requisites changing according the convention type, variation and extension of the convention.
In the catalog we have: Trump Swiss, Fruit Machine Swiss, Key Card Swiss, Singleton Swiss, Super Swiss and many more others.
Very popular was the Fruit Machine Swiss.
With that convention version the bid of 4♣ answering a 5 major opening was done with:
- 3/4 cards fit
- 12+HCP
- 2 Aces
- a lateral value (it could be a singleton, a third Ace, the King of trump)
and a 4♦ answer, showing same stuff but without the lateral value.
Following the 4♣ the Opener, at his willing, could make him specify the lateral value with the cheapest bid of 4♦.
The American Max Hardy recently proposed a complex variant, joining to Swiss the Bergen raises, the 2NT Jacoby and Splinters.
Among all Swiss's, we present here the one that seems more adequate to actual times: the Key Card Swiss.
The answers to a major opening are:
- 2NT Jacoby with slam view (16+HCP)
- 4♣ with the following:
-- 4/5 cards fit
-- 12-15+HCP
-- 2 Primary Key Card (PKC are 5: 4 Aces and King of trump)
-- an added value (singleton, a third PKC or the Queen of trump)
--4♦ with the above but the added value.
On 4♣, the Opener can ask using the cheapest bid of 4♦ and he gets back the info this way:
- 4 back to the opening suit = Queen of trump
- 4 in other major = singleton
- 4NT = a third PKC
- 5 in minor = singleton
