Wilbur C. Whitehead è nato nel 1866 a New York ed è stato il Presidente della Simplex Automobile Company.

 Era tale il fascino che il Bridge esercitava su di lui che nel 1930 si ritirò dagli affari per dedicarvisi a tempo pieno.

 Nel 1925 aveva fondato il prestigioso Cavendish Bridge Club.

 Inventore di diverse convenzioni di licita e di gioco fu membro della squadra che vinse la Vanderbilt Cup nel 1928 che fu il suo primo anno da agonista.

 Il trofeo che porta il suo nome fu da lui donato per premiare la miglior coppia femminile di primavera ai NABC's.

  Whitehead (1866-1931) was president of the Simplex Automobile Company, but bridge held such a fascination for him that he retired from business in 1910 to devote his life to bridge.

 He was the inventor of many bidding and play conventions, the quick-trick table of card values, the Whitehead system of requirements for original bids and responses and the Whitehead table of preferential leads.

 Whitehead was instrumental in standardizing procedures in auction bridge and later in contract bridge and a member of the team that won the Vanderbilt Cup in 1928, the first year it was in play.

He donated Whitehead Trophy that rewards the women's pair of spring queen.
