 Benjamin  GOLDER

 

 Benjamin Martin Golder è nato il 23 dicembre del 1891 ad Alliance una cittadina del New Jersey 60 Km. a Sud di Philadelphia.

 All'età di due anni i suoi genitori si spostarono a Philadelphia dove Benjamin si laureò in Legge alla locale Università nel 1913.

 Partecipò alla Prima Guerra Mondiale nella Naval Association Service e al suo ritorno divenne Consigliere Regionale della Pennsylvania dal 1916 al 1924.

 Fu anche Parlamentare Repubblicano e partecipò alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale partendo con con il grado di capitano nel 1943 e congedandosi con quello di luogotenente nel 1945.

 Fu Presidente dell'ACBL e morì il 30 dicembre del 1946 un mese prima della scadenza del suo mandato.

 Sposato con Margery Mastbaum, viene ricordato ai NABC's di primavera dal trofeo che porta il suo nome e un anno dopo la sua morte fu nominato Membro Onorario dell'ACBL.

  Benjamin Martin Golder (December 23, 1891 - December 30, 1946) was Republican member of the U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania.

Benjamin Golder was born in Alliance, New Jersey (near Vineland, NJ).

 He moved with his parents to Philadelphia in 1893. He graduated from the law department of the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia in 1913.

He enlisted in the Naval Aviation Service during World War I and was honorably discharged as ensign after the armistice.

 He became a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, serving from 1916 to 1924.

He was elected in 1924 as a Republican to the 69th Congress.

He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1932 and for election in 1940.

He resumed the practice of law in Philadelphia, PA until the Second World War.

He was commissioned a captain in the United States Army on February 5, 1943, and served until discharged as a lieutenant colonel July 1, 1945.

At the spring NABC's the Golder Cup is presented in his memory which ACBL President.

He was named ACBL Honorary Member of the Year for 1947.
