Honor FLINT

 

 Honor Flewett Flint nacque a Barnes il 7 agosto del 1923 ed imparò il bridge dal padre un professore di musica classica che era un grande amante del nostro gioco.

 Allo scoppiò della seconda guerra mondiale, Honor fu evacuata  assieme alla sorella ad Oxford e successivamente, dopo essere tornata nella sua casa natia che non era lontana dalla capitale, entrò nell'Ufficio di Guerra come addetta alla censura e dovette trasferirsi al Cairo.

 Fu lì che incontro Sydney Rye che divenne suo marito e padre dei suoi tre figli: Annette, Anthony e Ashley.  I coniugi Rye vivevano ad Alessandria quando la crisi di Suez nel 1956 decretò la fine del lavoro di lei ed il suo rientro in Inghilterra con i tre figli.

 Il marito la seguì dopo un anno, ma, quando venne trasferito nel Sudan, il loro matrimonio finì.

 Honor cominciò a giocare in partita libera per fare soldi e fu così che incontrò quello che divenne poi il suo compagne di tante vittorie ed il suo secondo marito Jeremy Flint.

Giocando in coppia vinsero diverse competizioni nazionali ed Honor approdò nella nazionale femminile restandoci per quasi un ventennio e conquistando un bronzo agli Europei del 1973.

Con il marito si trasferirono per un certo periodo negli USA prima di tornare in Inghilterra stabilendosi a Chelsea dove li raggiunse Annette Flint che era una buona bridgista e che aveva sposato un altro grande campione del tempo, Irving Rose.

Scomparve il 26 ottobre del 2015.

Honor Flewett was born in Barnes on 7 August 1923 and learned bridge from his father, a professor of classical music who was a great lover of our game.

At the outbreak of World War II, Honor was evacuated with her sister at Oxford and later, after returning to his home, which was not far from the capital, she entered the War Office as a censor and had to move to Cairo.

It was there that she met Sydney Rye who became her husband and father of her three children: Annette, Anthony and Ashley.

The Rye couple lived in Alexandria when the Suez crisis in 1956 decreed the end of her work and her return to England with her three children.

Her husband followed after a year, but when he was transferred to Sudan, their marriage ended.

Honor started playing in rubber bridge to make money and that's how she met what later became his companion of many victories and her second husband: Jeremy Flint.

Playing paired they won several national competitions and Honor arrived in the national women team staying there for almost twenty years and winning a bronze at the European Championships in 1973.

With her husband they moved to the USA for some time before returning to England, settling in Chelsea where Annette joined them. Annette, who was a good bridge player, married another great champion of the time, Irving Rose.

She disappeared on October 26th 2015.
