Barbara BRIER

 

 Barbara Srenco Brier è nata a Philadelphia nel 1923, si è laureata alla Cornell University ed è stata una nota insegnante di Bridge di Miami.

 Come giocatrice Barbara ha vinto due NABC, nel 1958 la Marcus Cup e 7 anni più tardi il Mixed Teams, ma, il suo successo più prestigioso resta il titolo mondiale conquistato nel 1970 a Stoccolma nel Coppie Miste giocando in coppia con il grande Waldemar Von Zedwitz che, quasi cieco, giocò tutto il campionato a mente con Barbara che gli leggeva le carte del morto!

 Barbara che viveva a Miami e che aveva avuto una figlia Bonnie, anche lei buona bridgista, si è spenta il 16 agosto del 1996 nella sua città natale a seguito di complicazioni relative ad un intervento chirurgico al cuore.

  She was born in Philadelphia and graduated from Cornell University. She worked for many years as a bridge teacher, primarily in Miami.

 In 1970 Mrs. Brier won the World Mixed Pairs in Stockholm. Her partner was Waldemar Von Zedtwitz. This was a remarkable accomplishment, as he was 74 years old and had vision problems that made it difficult for him to see the cards.

She won two national titles, the Open Pairs in 1955 and Mixed Teams in 1965, and was runner-up three times. She won many regional titles.

She died when was 73 and was a resident of Miami.
