So di non incontrare grande sostegno ma nessuno è profeta in Patria.

Questo quiz è stato presentato in California a 6 giocatori di livello mondiale e, per mia consolazione, le risposte si sono divise equamente tra 1SA e 1♦.

Se apro di 1♦ rispetto la predisposizione della mia mano e non ho grossi problemi di seconda licita, su 1♥ posso replicare con 1♠ forzante, su 1♠ posso rialzare a 3♦, a 3♠ o a 4♠, secondo gli accordi con il partner del momento, su 1SA (che promette le fiori) posso rialzare a 3SA.

Se apro 1SA come potrei criticare il partner per un rialzo a  3SA con:

♠KJ5♥A65♦QJ32♣J92 ?

Invece, non avrei dubbi ad aprire di 1SA con tre cartine di fiori, perché la terza cartina costituisce una buona assicurazione verso i possibili rovesci della sorte.

John Johns says: opening 1♦ leaves few rebid problems; bid 1♠ over a 1♥ response, raise 1♠ to 3♠, raise 1NT to 2NT. Only a 2♣ response causes any thought at all, and 2NT or 3NT (depending on agreements) should suffice). After I answered this question, Sumit Daftaur reminded me that I actually know this hand. My partner, Mark Bartusek, made the nice opening bid of 1♦. Mark’s LHO bid 3♣, and after two passes Mark doubled. I converted the double to  down two. At the other table 1NT went down two. A diamond part score is the best spot if the opponents are quiet.

I ask you: if you open 1NT how could criticize your partner if he raises 3NT with ♠KJ5♥A65♦QJ32♣J92 ?

Instead, I would have no doubt opening 1SA with three little cards of club, because the third map is a good insurance against possible reversals of fate.
