La United State Bridge Federation è stata fondata nel 2001 in collaborazione con la ACBL e la ABA per conformarsi al regolamento Olimpico che prevede squadre formate esclusivamente da cittadini del Paese di origine governati da un'organizzazione nazionale e non zonale (come appunto la ACBL che copre tutto il Nord America). 

  Ogni giocatore iscritto alla ACBL o alla ABA, se cittadino americano, è automaticamente iscritto anche anche alla USBF che finanziariamente dipende dalle sue due patrocinanti.

 Le competizioni organizzate dalla USBF suddividono i giocatori in 4 Categorie e contemplano le selezioni per partecipare alle Olimpiadi di Bridge o per individuare una seconda squadra da inviare ai Mondiali.

Le 4 Categorie sono: Open, Ladies, Juniores, Seniores.

I primi Campionati organizzati dalla USBF si svolsero presso la sua sede di Memphis in Tennessee nel 2002.

The United States Bridge Federation was formed in 2001, for the primary purposes of selecting and supporting United States teams in International Competition and supporting the World Bridge Federation in its efforts to obtain Olympic recognition for bridge. 

After making a significant effort to promote bridge as an Olympic Sport, including sending a team to the Salt Lake City IOC in 2002, USBF now focuses primarily on selecting teams for International competition, by holding the United States Bridge Championships for Open, Women, Senior and Junior teams, and on providing training and support for United States teams in International competition. 

USBF was originally formed by ACBL and ABA . 

It now receives support for United States International Teams from the ACBL International Fund and Junior Fund. It is otherwise self-supporting, with support coming from membership dues, contributions and entry fees for the USBCs.

USBF operates in significant part through its committees, which make recommendations to the Board.

The USBF is governed by its Board of Directors in accordance with its Bylaws .

USBF elections are run according to Election Procedures, which are subject to review and revision by the Board.

Appeals and Grievances are handled by USBF Appeals & Grievance Committee in accordance with USBF Appeals, Grievance & Disciplinary Procedures. Members may be removed or membership refused in accordance with Membership Procedures.
