Benjamin  WHITHROW

 

 Benjamin Whithrow è nato ad Oxford il 17 febbraio 1937 ed è un attore teatrale e televisivo britannico.

 Sposato con Catherine Cook ha avuto un figlio dall'attrice Celia Imrie.

 Dopo aver recitato nella Royal Shakespeare Company nel 1981, ha interpretato il ruolo di Russell nella versione radiofonica di After Henry.

 Nel 1989, Whithrow appare nel quarto episodio dello show A Bit of Fry and Laurie trasmesso dall'emittente BBC Two.

 Tra il 1990 e il 1992, Whithrow recita nella sitcom The New Statesman nel ruolo di Paddy O'Rourke, un ministro laburista che finge un accento irlandese in pubblico per attrarre i voti della classe lavoratrice.

 Benjamin è stato nominato per il premio BAFTA per la sua interpretazione del Signor Bennet nella miniserie televisiva Orgoglio e Pregiudizio.

Ha conosciuto il bridge vedendolo giocare dai suoi genitori, ma non si interessò seriamente al gioco fin quando non fu un giovane attore del Teatro Nazionale. Oggi gioca regolarmente due o tre volte la settimana presso il Wimbledon Bridge Club.

Oltre al bridge, Benjamin ama i concerti ed il golf.

Benjamin John Whithrow (born 17 February 1937) is an English actor.

Married to Catherine Cook, he had a son from the actress Celia Imrie.

He attended the Dragon School, Tonbridge School, and RADA. Whithrow also served in the King's Dragoon Guards from 1956 to 1958. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1981. He played Russell in the radio version of After Henry.

In 1989, Whithrow appeared in episode four of the BBC Two sketch show A Bit of Fry and Laurie (series one), playing an irate member of the audience who claimed that Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie had stolen several of their sketches from him.

Between 1990 and 1992, Whithrow appeared in the sitcom The New Statesman as Paddy O'Rourke, a Labor shadow minister who feigned an Irish accent when in public to attract the working-class vote.

Whithrow was nominated for the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Mr Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. He has a son, Angus, by actress Celia Imrie.

In the year 2000, in the successful animated movie Chicken Run, Whithrow voiced the character of Fowler; an old rooster who claims to have fought in World War II.

He knew the bridge seeing him play from his parents, but was not interested in the game seriously until he was a young actor of the National Theatre. He now plays regularly two or three times a week at the Wimbledon Bridge Club.

In addition to the bridge, Benjamin loves the concerts and golf.
