 Richard Anthony Proctor nacque a Chelsea nel 1837 e studi˛ prima al King's College di Londra e poi al St John's College di Cambridge.

 Sposatosi ancor prima di laurearsi a 23 anni, fu un eminente astronomo che scrisse un gran numero di testi scientifici e fece importanti scoperte in campo astronomico.

 Dopo il suo secondo matrimonio avvenuto nel 1881, si spost˛ negli Stati Uniti dove fond˛ la rivista scientifica Knowledge e dove viene ricordato tutt'oggi da un monumento a lui dedicato nella cittÓ di New York.

 La sua poliedrica personalitÓ lo port˛ ad interessarsi e scrivere di diversi argomenti tra i quali gli scacchi ed il Whist, gioco nel quale era considerato una vera autoritÓ.

 Morý prematuramente di febbre gialla nel 1888.

Richard Anthony Proctor was born in Chelsea in 1837 and studied first at King's College London and then to St John's College, Cambridge.

Married even before graduating at age 23, was a prominent astronomer who wrote a large number of scientific texts and made important discoveries in astronomy.

After his second marriage took place in 1881, he moved to America where he founded the scientific magazine Knowledge and where it is still remembered by a monument dedicated to him in the city of New York.

His multifaceted personality led him to become interested and write about different topics such as chess and whist, in which the game was considered a leading authority.

He died of yellow fever in early 1888.
