Magnus  OLAFSSON

 Magnus Olafsson è nato in Islanda il 18 febbraio del 1954 e fa parte del pool di scienziati premiati con il Nobel per la Pace nel 2005.

 In gioventù fu un campioncino di scacchi che vinse alcuni tornei e rappresentò la nazionale del suo Paese.

 Per ragioni di studio  si recò prima in Germania, poi a Vienna dove si laureò matematica, ed infine, in Inghilterra.

 Subito dopo il suo ritorno in Islanda conobbe il bridge e se ne appassionò praticandolo con una certa intensità dal 1986 al 1992, periodo in cui vinse tre titoli islandesi.

 Riprese a giocare solo nel 2014 e, più intensamente, dopo il suo pensionamento avvenuto nel 2016.

 Oggi vive negli USA e nel 2019 si è sposato con la campionessa Disa Eythorsdottir.

Played bridge for a short time only (1986 to 1992) but did very well.

Won the strong annual Icelandic Championship three times in row (1990 to 1992); three different teams, three partners.

Began to play again a little in mid 2014.

Trying to retire in early 2016 to be able to begin to play serious bridge again.
